Technology definition
Web 2.0 is a term that is given to the second generation of the World Wide Web. The technology is focused on the ability for people to collaborate and share information online. It basically offers transition from the static, HTML web pages to a much dynamic and organized websites and it is based on serving web applications to users. The technology also has web 2.0 has additional improved functionality which include open communication with emphasis on web-based communities of users and more open sharing information.
Web 2.0 based website allows its users to interact and collaborate with each other using dialogues and user generated content in a virtual community. This is in contrast to websites where the users are only allowed to view passive content. Examples of websites that utilize the web 2.0 technology include blogs, wikis, social sites, folksonomies, video sharing sites, hosted services and web applications.

The technology has gained wide applications in the design of interactive and virtual environment websites. The technology can be effectively used in marketing paradigms where great deal of interaction is required. The interaction can be enhanced by the use of web 2.0 technology in the design of websites and webpages. The technology can be used in the establishment of marketing frontiers where customer interaction and communication is effectively and efficiently handled.

The technology offers marketers a platform for customer engagement and interaction. Marketers are effectively using the technology to collaborate with customers on product development, service promotion and enhancement. Additionally, companies using this technology have seen great improvement in collaboration with its consumers and business partners. Through the use of the technology many companies have experienced great breakthroughs through marketing using social media, online marketing through online business communities, group discussions, referrals and virtual communication between the customers and the company and customer reviews. The technology is so far the most efficient form of marketing for any organization.
