The study of the four lenses of wellness has shaped my perception of health. Our definitions of health vary from person to person. I used to believe that environmental variables alone were responsible for health. Since I now see that other things have a role in well-being, my notion of health has evolved due to reading these lenses. In this instance, I may describe well-being in terms of how historical influences on individuals, and perspectives from social sciences, humanities, and natural science. Besides, I have also learned how perception and biasness affect wellness. Cognitive biases are a part of human nature. These mental habits include processing information via our preferences, ideas, and encounters daily. Still, they can give us a distorted worldview, affecting our health and well-being.
We are in an age where people have recognized and are calling for gender equality and the abolishment of stereotypes. The studies emphasize the elements of gender equality, such as prejudices and conventions, which are crucial in maintaining gender-based identities and limiting the behavior of males via the four wellness-related educational lenses. For example, history considers various views of individuals whose lifestyles were predominant during a particular era to demonstrate the link between the notion of feminism and the historical lens. The idea of gender equality is interconnected in several establishments, including schools, and this has prompted the emergence of new themes to comprehend the concept’s historical perspective. The historical perspective on education examines how things before and how history has affected how they are today. It is, therefore, possible to comprehend the directions to follow for promoting gender equality in the future by connecting the progress of feminism in the past and modern society.
This study has equipped me with critical analysis skills that enhance my knowledge of the four cognitive biases and how they influence health and wellness; status quo, confirmation bias, optimism bias, and hindsight bias (Legg, 2020). Therefore, I have learned to minimize the impact of biases in decision-making, examining facts and using deductive reasoning in research and making decisions. I will employ these skills in analyzing political situations, health matters such as vaccines, or even religious beliefs.
