INTERVIEWING FUNDAMENTALS
What are some of the things which interviewers do that can cause them to lose valuable information that an interviewee is attempting to relay to them?
Sometimes, interviewers make mistakes which actually spoil the purpose of the entire interview session. For instance, instead of focusing on important points about the personality, perspectives, education, and skills of the interviewee, they focus on things which are unrelated to the job or useless to ask. The interviewers also keep their tone unfriendly or assume the interviewee as less capable and this leads to the inefficiency of the interviewing process (Stewart & Cash, 2012). Moreover, the interviewer should not ask confusing questions from the interviewees unnecessarily.
The interview makes an important part of the recruitment process. When an interviewer is planning to take an interview, there are certain things he has to keep in mind. The foremost thing is that he must know how to engage the interviewee. The interviewer must ask questions which require open ended answers. If the questions are asked in a closed ended manner, the interviewer will not be able to judge and caliber and intellectual level of the candidate being interviewed. The interviewer must also encourage the interviewee to provide examples to back up facts about his personality and experience. For instance, when the interviewer asks the interviewee about the strengths of his personality, he must ask the interviewee to come up with a real life example or situations where such skills or strengths have been successfully exhibited. The interviewer must also ensure that the interviewee is informed about the position for which the interview is being carried out along with relevant details so that the interview could turn out to be a productive experience.
