What Do You See In This Picture Essay Example

When looking at the TAT card, I see a woman that has just arrived and is about to sit down to have a cup of tea with the man. Before she has arrived, the man was drinking tea alone, waiting for her. As she is moving a chair closer to the table, the man enthusiastically tells her a very interesting observation he made just before she arrived. The woman pauses to show the man that she is very interested. In a while, she will sit down, pour some tea in a cup and continue listening. The man will sit back on his chair, assuming a more comfortable position. On the Rorschach card, I saw a colorful scull as if designed for the Mexican Day of the Dead parade. The eye sockets, the nose and the teeth are located in the center of the card and are in red. The scull is surrounded by the headband of red flowers, possibly, red poppies, and on both sides of the headband are green and blue peacock feathers hanging down. The TAT test is aimed at measuring needs and motivations, concerns, anxieties, aggression and perception of social interactions and world. Initially created as an additional tool for diagnosing and measuring schizophrenia, the Rorschach is currently aimed at discovering personal traits, characteristics and emotional health of a person. After taking these tests, I believe that they can be viewed only as additional methods of personality testing, but cannot be used independently to measure the aforesaid characteristics. Moreover, since there is no single accepted scoring system for these tests, their interpretations can differ significantly, depending on an interpreter. My personal responses have revealed some truth about me, but have touched only the surface and were very influenced by my currently festive and sociable mood. Finally, I have considered several responses to the cards and realized that I could choose what to say and, thus, could forge my responses to make them more socially acceptable and normal.
After completing the test and reviewing my results, I believe that it has quite accurately described my personality in my current mood. Although I am usually an introvert, preferring to keep my thoughts to myself, being somewhat reserved and finding a lot of pleasure in being alone immersed in my thoughts and observations, this test has shown that I am an extravert (my score is 7). This score can be explained by my current excitement about meeting with my friend soon. Indeed, I feel enthusiastic, energized and talkative, but only because of the aforesaid factor. However, I rarely experience these feelings when simply going out or meeting new people. Although other scores were pretty accurate, I do believe that the description of my personality was too vague and broad, and could thus be applied to many people, who actually have different personalities. Because the test takes into account only five major traits, I believe that it is not a very accurate way to examine personality difference, since people may have these five traits in common, but will be very different due to their many minor differences ignored by the test. Thus, I think that this test can be used to outline one’s personality, and other tools should be used additionally to get more detailed information about a person.
