I have just watched a short video about how important ethics at the workplace is and how much it can contribute to one’s personal and professional development.
I strongly believe that the way the information is presented to a viewer in this video is very effective and, thus, persuades the person who is watching it that ethics plays one of the major parts in any company. Besides, it helps to improve self-esteem of every worker that will definitely lead to positive changes and results in business.
Eric Harvey is talking about four main steps to ethics that everyone should use in order to become ethical. They are as follows:
- Respect. Responsibility. Results.
- Say ‘No’ with tact.
- Manage conflicting rights.
- Walk the talk.
I completely agree that following these simple rules will surely result in ethical atmosphere at the workplace or any other place. I’ve learnt from the video that a company is less likely to succeed if its workers know nothing about ethics and always neglect its principles for personal purposes. On the contrary, if an organization sets high ethical standards and all the workers care about them and try to stick to these simple rules of ethics, it can be pledge of the long-term success of this organization.
One of the things I liked the most about this short video is that all the statements said are supported with the examples from everyday life that are so common at the workplace and among the coworkers. Obviously, visualization of what has just been said helps to remember and learn the information and, surely, use it in practice. These examples demonstrate ethics lapses that usually lead to misunderstandings, unproductiveness, further problems that take place at the organization where ethical standards are neglected. Also it is emphasized in the video that there are such situations where the line between ethical and unethical is very blurry. However, one always needs to remember that the cost of unethical behavior is tremendous and the latter may consist of such situations. Thus, you should understand for yourself what your purpose in the organization is and whether it is more important for you to do something good and right rather than something that is more convenient.
As for the personal benefits from being ethical at the workplace. they are also numerous and are not limited to those enumerated in the video. Surely, if you do your best to follow ethical standards, you can easily achieve things you desire most in your life – happiness, pride and success at whatever you are to do.
In general, I consider this video to be very short but extremely useful for those who watch it. It clearly states the great importance of ethics for both, an organization and its workers.
