It is not a secret that humanity on the path of development has created a lot of useful things, but for every successful invention there are many unsuccessful. The "Golden age" of mankind was the 19th century, when the invention has become a favourite pastime of many people. Some inventions did not have chances for success, because their authors were not able to understand the scientific principles underlying them. Other inventions were just a flight of fancy and were designed for entertainment.
I believe that if we are able to do something, it does not mean that we have to do it. Some inventions never were really what we needed. And even worse - some of them were not supposed to see life, and especially be produced in mass production, and then to fall upon the unsuspecting world. There were a lot of inventions that were absolutely useless; however I would like to admit weapon. I consider any kind of weapon: fire, cold, ancient or modern, is considered the worst and most harmful invention. I understand that the weak can resist the strong only with what makes him stronger opponent. But his opponent does not stand at the same side and is also arming and rearming.
Moreover, the worst thing is the nuclear weapon of mass destruction. Nuclear, atomic and hydrogen warheads are one of the worst scourges of our civilization. The spread of nuclear weapons is one of the biggest threats for international security in the XXI century. During the emergence of a global military conflict in the world with all nuclear weapons and nuclear technology (nuclear power plants and so on) all other problems lose their meaning. The inability of the limited impact of the nuclear incident on the environment was demonstrated by the Chernobyl disaster in 1986. The harsh reality is that never before in the history of humankind has accumulated a number of deadly weapons that are enough to destroy all life on Earth, or even the planet itself. This is evidenced by the results of the atomic bombing in August 1945, the bridge Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan. In addition to lethal radiation occurred radioactive contamination of soil, plants, air and buildings. The number of dead amounted to 273 thousand people; 195 thousand people felt under a deadly radioactive radiation.
In my humble opinion, the Earth would be a more peaceful place to live if the humanity reduces the military spending and goes towards nuclear disarmament. Therefore, I consider nuclear weapon and the worst invention of mankind.
