Fitness means being in a state of good health condition. The term could be analogous to the state of wellness. As such, to be fit, an individual needs to observe that six dimensions of well-being are appropriately addressed. These dimensions include: physical, emotional, intellectual, interpersonal, spiritual, and environmental . Fitness, therefore, means exemplifying the state of exemplary health in a holistic manner. In addition, fitness also means that the individual is aware of the means to maintain and sustain good health through observing and adhering to living a healthy lifestyle. As such, the person who is committed to fitness is also aware of the five components of fitness, to wit: muscular strength, cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, muscular endurance, body composition, and flexibility . Concurrently, awareness is used towards ensuring that good health is sustained through strategies that avoid contraction of illnesses.
Overall, to be fit, the individual should be able to recognize that a holistic approach to maintaining and sustaining good health is observed. Knowledge of the six dimensions, as well as the five components of fitness must be understood. The strategies and techniques for ensuring that one lives a healthy lifestyle include observance of a balanced and nutritious diet, engaging in physical exercises, as well as possessing a positive mind set. Any internal or external factors that could significantly impinge on maintaining good health should immediately be addressed. Thus, individuals who manage stress and protect themselves from tendencies to contract diseases are observed to be successful in sustaining the condition of being holistically fit.
