The movie “where Hope Grows” is a manifestation of the fact that sometimes people who we least expect to be important in our lives end up shaping our character, thus influencing our lives in a remarkable way. In the movie, Calvin Campbell also known as Kristopher Polana lets fear to get a better part of himself, a situation that limits his ability to measure up to his aspirations despite being a former Detroit Tiger. Additionally, Calvin is a drunkard, and his drinking problem gradually limits the time he spends with McKaley Miller (his teen daughter). Although Calvin seems to have a good share of negative things in his life, a youthful person known as “Produce” is a symbol of positive influence. Notably, Produce has a Down syndrome, a problem that he manages and ensures that it does not exert detrimental pressure on his lifestyle.
Produce is ever hardworking, cheery and seizes the slightest opportunities to hug people. In essence, this attitude of hugging others is admirable and it makes Calvin to like Produce and even start hanging out with him. The interaction between Calvin and Produce allows important exchange of values. Specifically, Calvin teaches Produce batting, and he gets lessons from Produce oh how to become a better individual. The turning point in Calvin’s life occurs when Produce invites him to church and he accepts.
Essentially, going to church is just a beginning of a long journey for Calvin. Although Produce influences Calvin to become a better person, that itself does not fully solve his drinking problem. Notably, only after Calvin recognizes that he has a drinking addiction that he eventually gets rid of it. Finally, faith and perseverance in God become Calvin’s pillars helping him to live as a better person.
