Question # 2
According to the journal, Pollit says that the future lives of our children are best described by feminism. I agree with her statement. Feminism is a women’s movement towards attaining better status for ladies in society. The National Organization for Women (NOW) was formed to look into ladies’ issues. The organization aims at developing a viable relationship between women, the work place and marriage. The rights of women and the rights of children are highlighted and met. In order for us to understand the point put across by Pollit, it is important to examine the position of women in the traditional society. Women were lowly regarded. Their position was in the kitchen and to take care of their children and entertain their husbands. Employed women left their jobs after conceiving to care for their babies. When the NOW was formed, it educated women on what is expected of them in the modern competitive world. It is true that the future lives of the children are in the hands of feminism. Traditionally, children were treated preferentially. Boys pursued tough courses like medicine, engineering and astronomy. Ladies on the other hand pursued inferior courses like nursing, home science and secretarial careers. Women have learnt that the world presents equal opportunities for boys and girls. It is the role of women to train their children in what is right. Just like other habits which are inculcated into the lives of children as they grow, women are at the forefront educating their children on career paths and life in general, regardless of the gender. That is why there are many female doctors, engineers, pilots and astronauts in the modern society. The fact that boys and girls have a few cognitive differences between them does not make the male children superior to their female counterparts. Therefore, the postulation by Pollit that radicalism fits the prospect of our children is true.
