The definition white person is dynamic idea depending on the geographical differences and historic context. This then makes it difficult for one to identify himself or herself with white as a race. The concept has been applied with various degrees of internal consistency and formality with a function as color metaphor for race. However, the concept has been used with a wide degree of variation as several scholars and socialist use the word as a race while others use it as skin color identification. The definition of the word white is not enough to identify the people referred to be white.
The first construction of the word white as a race in the United States was due to the fact the slave owners had to differentiate themselves from slaves. And it was in the 18th century that the term developed as a racial identity. Since now that there are no slaves in Europe and other areas with white people, it is difficult to identify one as white or black race because, earlier developers of the word had connoted the black race as negative and being discriminated (Pearce, 2005). Since every civilization is currently moving towards churning a way racial discrimination various socialist who see it as unethical to hold the connotation of racism fights towards being racial neutral and identifies himself or herself as with his or her state or country.
The fight to end racism calls for the identification of race through scientific definition than cultural definition. White race identification thus lacks any scientific definition what is scientifically identified as white is far much different from what is used to describe people of European origin (Pearce, 2005). This makes it difficult for anyone who understands white color to identify him or herself to be white. The main idea about this connotation is the negativity and the positivity that is attached to either being white or black.
The spirit of having actions rather than mere identity define the success of a person is the driving force that makes it difficult for white people to identify themselves with skin identity which is attached with it various biases which are detrimental to the people of other race. For instance when these racial identification was fur much holding, there existed a drift between the backs and white, with whites being known to be successful and positively identified unlike their fellow countrymen of black color who were identified to be negative and unsuccessful. This is something that every civilization is fighting to discard as a way of creating a conducive environment for its citizens despite of color or race (Pearce, 2005). The white people see it difficult to identify themselves as white because they have taken an initiative to undermine racism with its historic bad image in dividing nations on basis of color. The white race itself in the world today has been diminishing since people have intermarried and the result is a mixture of black and white which by virtue of the definition attached to white race, the hybrids do not meet the definitions of being white. Therefore, these whites feel it difficult to identify them with a skin color they do not fit.
In conclusion, white people feel it difficult to identify themselves with the white race because the people of white color are many and of different origin thus making it diverse race with no specificity. They also feel it difficult because of the fight to end racism.
