Why Do You Wanna Attend Admission Essay

If I could attribute one primary reason for choosing Ohio State University, it would be professor Oded Shankar. When I started my college search six months ago, I happened upon an issue of the Harvard Business Review that featured a story on Oded Shankar. Shankar was quoted as saying, “copying others’ ideas is good business. Sometimes it’s great business. And it happens more often than people think,” something that resonates with me to this day. In response to the reporter’s question as to whether or not you can be successful in business by simply copying, he said that copying and innovation can be one and the same. Shankar has inspired me in many ways, especially with his interest in International Business; as this is my intended major, it is not hard to see why I view him as a sort of role model for my own work. Given my Korean background, I am especially fascinated by his emphasis in American/East Asian business, since it directly pertains to my desired realm of business.
OSU has also produced quite a few successful Korean graduates, such as Jung Eun Bo, who is currently the financial chairman for South Korea. As we all know very well, networking is the most important way to get internships and job positions; everyone I have consulted about this informs me that you need to get in with someone who is working in the field you are interested in to get these positions. Reading more about Ohio State University’s many strengths and advantages, I am more and more convinced that this is the university I wish to attend. It is my belief that I can learn the skills I require for the world of International Business at this school, as well as gain the contacts needed to find a place where my talents can be put to good use.
If I were to pick my greatest strength, it would be my ability to lead responsibly. At the previous university I attended, De Anza College, I led a volunteer group of 100 students over a cross country walk throughout the entirety of South Korea, an activity known as Cross Country Korea. I was humbled and energized by this responsibility, and it led me to make sure to create a detailed plan for our journey. I wanted to be sure to foster a supportive, efficient work relationship with all of my fellow volunteers. By the time our journey ended, we had spent two entire weeks traversing 35 miles each day, and not a single one gave up or relinquished their efforts, thanks to my leadership and ability to bring people together. Several of the volunteers thanked me for getting them through some of the rougher patches of the journey. Because of my leadership skills and organizational capabilities, I have been selected many times since then to lead groups and class projects, where I was able to successfully mediate student disputes, utilize everyone’s unique strengths to their fullest potential, and provide a productive, smooth work environment. It is for these reasons that I believe I would excel at Ohio State University.
