Homeschooling has become one of the most well sought out ways of educating, and teaching children the lessons they need to survive. Parents are homeschooling their children, and many of the reasons are evident such as the fact that children are more likely to listen to their parents than complete strangers.
Other reasons could be that some parents have given up on the school system and their ability to provide a decent education, another reason could be ethical or the school system’s lack thereof to deal with some children especially those who are bullies.
The pressure of trying to keep up with the rest of the class can become a burden on the child which will likely lead to erratic behavior in the classroom, some parents have decided to homeschool their children and in favor of it because the children learn at a better rate than they would in a school outside the home.
While other people think that children are not learning as much as they could be in school, I chose to homeschool my child because there have been significant differences in areas such as progress, attention span, eagerness to learn and instruction. I support homeschooling not just because of those abovementioned reasons, but I think it has become one of the best ways for any child to learn.
Homeschooling has become a revolutionary way to teach children the basic things such as their ABCs and their 1, 2, 3s; the role of education in the U.S. has degenerated to a great extent; it has gotten to the point where education is no longer a time-honored tradition.
My position on homeschooling my child or any child being homeschooled is that it is a great way for them to learn at their own pace and it is a new way of ensuring that children get the education that they need without the need for forceful methods or ostracizing.
I support homeschooling because it has become evident that children do remarkably well on their assignments and tests that they take, it is also a known fact that parents are homeschooling their children for that reason and many others. According to Lips & Feinberg (2008), “Homeschooling has come to be known as the best way for children to get an education, children are likely to perform even better than those who are not being homeschooled at all” (Lips & Feinberg, 2008).
I am in favor of homeschooling because I believe that the children learn better when their parents or a tutor who has been homeschooled can relate to that child, it keeps the attention of the child; homeschooling children has worked wonders because they learn how to think for himself. Other parents believe that homeschooling is just an excuse to shelter the child from the harsh realities of the real world, but when they are able to read at a 7th grade level being in the fifth grade; that is homeschooling at its best.
The concept of homeschool got the attention of parents nationwide back in 1998, there was more than a 40% increase of school age children who were being homeschool before mid-1999. According to Humason (2012), “Children being prepared for college through homeschooling is at an all-time high, parents who choose to homeschool their children are parents who genuinely care about their children’s education” (Humason, 24, 2012).
Parents no longer have to worry about how little their child is learning, homeschooling is a step in the right direction not just for me, but for the child as well.
Traditionally, many of the nation’s ancestors were homeschooled and were better for it; those same people that were homeschooled ended up doing great things such as George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. Public schools were still a concept at the time, so many people back in the 18th & 19th century were homeschooled.
Homeschooling is the best thing to happen to children because it gives children a way to learn on their own power, the fact that some children get bored in school is another reason why I support homeschooling; some children get bored and feel as if the school is wasting their time. According to Moreau (2012), “It is a known fact that parents and children feel good about being homeschooled because there is always something that will challenge the child not unlike the public schools who’ll just repeat the same things until the child “eventually” learn it at their pace based on their understanding” (Moreau, 11, 2012).
Another great reason why I support homeschooling is because parents can control the environment in which their child learns. There were times in the past where children were separated based on who were ahead of the curve and who were not, that segregation is what practically led to children being homeschooled in the first place. According to Ray (2016), “Parents sigh with relief knowing that their child is being homeschooled under their direction and the child does better versus being in public school being forced to learn different pieces of information that is no longer relevant” (Ray, 2016).
Once upon a time, homeschooling was a reality of those born into nobility; dozens of children have access to the option of homeschooling in the present day. All of the aforementioned is more than enough reason why I support homeschooling, it is enough for me to believe and see with my own eyes that children are prone to being able to grasp the concept of what they are studying; learning has become fun instead of the gradebook deathtrap it once was.
Being homeschooled does have several advantages such as the child being able to fully concentrate and excel, children are able to graduate early not to mention go to college early as well as are prepared than most other children who were brought up on the public school edict.
I believe that homeschooling should be the ultimate weapon in getting a child an education, they learn at their own pace and there is no teacher threatening to throw them out of class if they do not learn the material. Gone are the negative reinforcement policies that divides, and segregates students who are either bored or have no desire to conform.
The concept of a decent education has fallen on deaf ears of so-called educators who are supposed to be teaching children instead of trying to hold them back a grade because of a failure to communicate what they are being taught.
All of these reasons are the best there is at why homeschooling is better for children than spending billions of dollars to send them to a place that practically crushes their soul for learning, and pacifies their innate abilities. According to Hill (2000), “The school system and the foundation of education has crumbled beneath the feet of administrators as well as children, homeschool is the holy grail of education as it has been for the last 380 years” (Hill, 2000).
The opposing side believes that homeschooling a child only seeks to shelter children who are not ready to face the harsh realities of the real world, they also believe that the iron-fisted rule of public and private schools is absolute; homeschooling a child promotes laziness.
Those on the opposing side also believe that homeschooling a child will scar them socially, they will not know how to survive in a social situation; the parents are legitimately setting them up for failure. Homeschooling is an idea that works in theory, but it does not prepare the child like public school does. Homeschool is for the child’s own good and it is a much better alternative to public school said no opposing side ever.
In conclusion, many parents are in favor of homeschooling because of the benefits that it provides them and their children. Children who have a parent in the military and travels a lot, the child still benefit because they are still getting their education versus getting attendance violations for missing school. Homeschooling definitely has more benefits than risks, I am in favor of it because homeschooling actually makes it easier for a child to learn.
It cannot be argued that a child that is homeschooled is many times more “evolved” for lack of a better word, than those who traditionally went to private school or public school. Children feared going to public school because of the pressure that was on them to learn, teachers that posted assignment materials felt ordained to separate who was ahead and who were not based on performance; children who made complaints of any kind were dealt with quickly.
Children felt pacified and scared which disrupted their ability to excel, homeschooling alleviates all of that; the child has their sense of excitement toward learning back. Historically, great men such as George Washington and Thomas Jefferson were role models that started the homeschool project; they set the foundation for children to achieve greatness through education as they formers did when they were children themselves.
Another thing that makes homeschooling such a viable option is that children are no longer feeling that as if they are competing for their grades, they are working with one on one tutors i.e. their parents and learning at their own speed. Children with learning disabilities also benefit from this because of the fact they are not subject to any separation, and bullying that they might face not keeping up with everyone else.
Homeschooling has become the ultimate weapon of education; homeschool has made it possible for children to be prepared for the challenges of college. Parents have nothing to lose by homeschooling their child, the benefits are infinite.
