INSTUTIONAL AFFILIATION
Since I can remember I have always looked at the medical professions with admiration. If there was ever a definition of people who choose a vocation over a profession that would be those who pursue their studies in the medical sector. My parents have always told me that since I was very young I have always taken on a caring role‚ from caring for a fallen down from its nest bird to being there when someone got sick as I got older. Some time ago I had first-hand experience of what a difference nurses can make in the life of a patient as well as the family of that patient‚ as a family member spent a few days in hospital. I feel that there is nothing better than making a positive difference in other people’s lifes. And what better way than nursing? From my point of view nursing combines my natural disposition to care with my life’s philosophy. I consider myself a people’s person which I feel makes nursing the ideal choice for my future. Added to that‚ I have always had a keen interest in all that is medically related. When my relative was in hospital I found that I was not happy with just the general information about her condition. I felt the need to know more and when the information was given to me‚ I found it both fascinating and enlightening. It gave me a new perspective on my relative’s condition and I found myself trying to find out more as I got to understand both her condition as well as the treatment she was being given. I must say this experience was a big eye-opener for me. Ultimately I look forward to training to be an effective nurse‚ ready to embark on this new learning experience which will allow me to become what I feel I was always meant to be: a nurse.
