Admission Essay
No matter what I do, or what pursuit I follow, my ultimate goal has always been to help others. I was born in Cuba, and I came to the United States at the age of 12 with the rest of my family. After graduating high school, I worked as an insurance agent for approximately two years while I attended college. While there, I took a great deal of pleasure from helping my customers find the right plan for them. In this way, I gained satisfaction from making sure people and property were taken care of and safeguarded, and I always enjoyed building relationships with my customers, who comprised a wide variety of different people. However, my college experience soon turned me to my true calling: pharmacy.
While in college, I found myself highly enjoying my science classes, particularly the ones relating to biology and chemistry. I was drawn to the way the human body worked, and what substances and elements had an effect on these functions. One of my professors asked me to be their teacher assistant for Organic Chemistry, and I accepted, spending a lot of time in the labs there. During my time in the lab, I began to understand the relationship between organic chemistry and pharmacy, and appreciated the interaction of different chemicals and compounds. While there, I also participated in two different chemistry research projects as well as two independent study projects which I found to be innovative, and enjoyed the hands on time during the experiments.
Ever since I was a boy, I have always sought to solve problems and help people with whatever crises they had in front of them. Because of my own love for science, and my drive to act as a positive force on the world around me, I feel as though my energies are best suited to a career in pharmacy. There are so many incredible opportunities for discovery in the field of pharmacy, and with the resources and knowledge I hope to have at my disposal I want to put my best efforts toward pursuing them. Pharmacists have a responsibility as community leaders to facilitate change and the betterment of the patients they represent; I sincerely hope to meet that challenge with everything that I have and more. I have been fortunate to have a lot of support and luck behind me in my life so far; I wish to make the most of what I have been given by giving back to the community through this exciting and specialized field.
