One of the hardest decisions a person should make in the entire life is choosing a profession worth lifetime commitment and all the sacrifices it might require. Luckily, I am among those happy people who did not have any difficulties taking this significant step to the future. In fact, my iron determination to become a psychiatrist started forming long before I could realize it.
When I was a child, I always enjoyed meeting new people, making new friends, talking to them a lot, asking plenty of questions – all in all, trying to explore human’s nature. Even back then I could already consider myself to be a people person. Moreover, I really got a lot of pleasure, if I was willing to help someone who needed my help, and the thing I was always best at was having an honest, friendly and warm conversation. Growing up did not change much – I realized that being surrounded by people and helping them is my calling in life. However, there was also a certain occasion that helped me to choose what exactly I would like to do and how it could be connected with helping people.
One sunny day my family was struck by an unexpected lightening – my brother was diagnosed with clinical depression. All of the family members were trying to comfort him and help him as much as we could, but, clearly, he needed a professional help too. Thus, I became an unwitting accomplice of my brother’s treatment – I could see how much he was improving his state of mind doing the talk therapy with his psychiatrist. Fortunately, it did not take long before he was healed up and was able to get back to normal life. Consequently, I was so inspired by his recovery, that I decided that psychiatrist was the most noble and rewarding profession I could ever dream about. I knew for sure that helping people with mental illnesses would help me make at least minor contribution to the society I live in, apart from being a very gratifying and motivating job to do.
I believe that I possess all the necessary qualities to be a perfect psychotherapist. First of all, I am a good listener and a dependable person – I can always comfort a person, listen carefully to what he or she is saying, and, surely, respond appropriately. Furthermore, I am always fully committed to what I am doing and it makes me confident I would be a good professional in my area. Besides, I consider myself to be quite ambitious and purposeful – no matter how tough the obstacles might be, I will do my best to overcome them.
All in all, the only thing I am lacking at the moment that would make me a professional psychiatrist is decent, profound education in Psychology that would contribute to both – my theoretical and practical knowledge, as well as to my personal qualities. I truly believe that your institution will help me achieve the goal of my life and become useful to our society. I am more than sure – being enrolled and graduated from your institution will give me an excellent opportunity to help heal people’s souls and minds, and thus, make this world a better place to live in.
