Introduction
Will’s father had earlier on abandoned him and his mother when he was very little. Will had not seen his father and as a result, he developed a very negative attitude towards his father. This impacted Will in two folds, on one hand, will was negatively affected as he did not benefit from the father’s love which made him to lead a poor life. On the hand, it is seen as a major stepping stone for Will to re-evaluate himself and to appreciate the need for self-reliance. When Will became a societal figure, the father sensed and tried to get back to will’s life.
Will later on became an author and an actor (McClinton-Temple, Jennifer & Alan 69). It is via this that, one day as he was to play some movie; he met a lady whom he recognised as Louse, a mother to South Wing. He thus fell in love. Will gives South Wing a top as Christmas present to demonstrate his commitment to her as a father figure. Will’s relationship with the South Wing is seen to be a possible family and Will would be South Wing’s father whom he will love to showcase how his father ought to have cared for him.
What the top symbolises
The top meant that Will changed the mode of presentation from a mere playing the video to live narration. This enabled Will to show how parents should cater for their children since his father had abandoned him. The top, being in the shape of a circle with four quadrants, would also symbolise the difficulties that one goes through before succeeding in life.
Will’s father had failed to issue such tops to his only two sons and hence was seen as a failed father (McClinton-Temple, Jennifer, & Alan 97). The colour of the top also symbolises the steps followed before achievement as well as the hurdles in life as a result of the abandonment by parents. The sound produced by the top, could mean the benefits that accrued to a committed individual and in particular, Will as per this context.
Why will life is described as a circle
Will’s life is described as a circle as symbolised by the top issued to South Wing. This is because Will having suffered from the lack of the father, he developed not knowing his culture. He leaves his native California for Canada. As described by the shape of the top, being a circle having four quadrants. His homecoming is seen as the fulfillment of the described life. This is because he left home and he is expected to know his culture as outlined in his narrations in Canada where he keeps on referring to his previous life on a cultural basis.
Significance of the top
The decision of will to physically change the way of presentation as earlier on been planned made him capture the attention of the audience and a hence he could talk of his past experience clearly outlining the significance of one’s culture which could have missed if he were to play the video and go. This enabled to show his capability to Louise to whom he fallen for.
Will and Louise relationship
Louise and Will met in Canada where Will was to speak about how the past experience can be used to develop a better person. Louse has a child known as South Wing, and will establishes an affair with Louise. Will would become a figure father to South Wing. This was about the talk of a protagonist, Will on his item about the Medicine River. Will can then be said to have founded a love relationship with Louise.
Conclusion
Will has indicated that success comes after hurdles. This is an encouragement to many people who might need to excel in life. The journey towards achievement might prove long, and with a lot of challenges and can best be described as circle (McClinton-Temple, Jennifer & Alan 112). As explained by the shape of the top with four quadrants given to South Wing. From here, we learn the impact of commitment and one’s experience as the basis towards achievement.
