Business proposal to implement the wireless technology in company
Recommendation
Benefits
The company proposal encompasses two wireless technologies that have both, benefits and disadvantages. The iPhone 4 and a satellite service for remote location networking capabilities are the two choices the team decided that will match the company’s requirements best. The cost of cell equipment, service, and support has been considered in the proposal. Satellite service is provided by experienced providers and allows the company to contract for services. The iPhone 4 has 3 major advantages over other cell phones and services. It has more applications (software programs) available than its competitors, approximately 300,000 at present. It supports higher resolution than any other smart phone, providing better research capability while travelling. Finally, it conserves space (memory) on the phone by storing everything in folders, which also is more efficient for file sharing. Technical support is provided by the provider through a warranty, reducing the cost to the company.
Satellite service is provided by several companies, utilizing LEO (low earth orbit) technology. DIRECTV will provide installation, support, and network capability for remote locations that we establish. The advantage is minimizing cost and manpower for our company, while still having teleconferencing and computer networking capabilities.
Disadvantages
The iPhone 4 disadvantages are less in comparison to other smart phones. It has a smaller screen, but is compensated for by the higher resolution and easier file transfer (to view on laptop or other medium). The major reported complaint, poor reception, is due to the provider. Utilizing a Verizon service should provide the company with better results.
When implementing satellite, the main drawback is the lack of control over proprietary data being sent on the network. This can be overcome with adding encryption equipment on the frontend of the network (user location), and providing training to employees.
Justification
The freedom that wireless technology provides is unparalleled to that of a landline based organization. In an era where time is of the essence, having the functionality of a smart phone such as the iPhone 4 and use of satellite, work can be done virtually from anywhere. Wireless technology gives employees the ability to make better use of their time; allowing productivity to become second nature. As with any other technology, it has its advantages and disadvantages, but it is sure to be the advancement that will set our company apart from the others.
