Introduction
Essentialism or the idea of an essentialist in gender is founded on the belief of the late 1960’s that women should be minors and their jobs primarily relating to housewives, they included saying nursing say teaching. This is called an idea or the belief of an essentialist because people assumed that women, being women had limited skill sets that were present by their gender. Carole Vance looks at this idea of a social constructionist theory, and then looks at it again against the essentialist theory in the setting or the background of feminism. Essentialism as a tool of identification is. Looking at her definition, it brings clearly and perfectly the ideology of how society particularly sees this social problem.
Looking at the idea of social construction, its ultimate asset lies in its defilement of our own society and these scientific ideas that would place sexuality as a natural deed. This indicates a situation where it is not controlled, but is a slave of biology and the mind. It is the thought that human’s characteristics are very flexible. This idea however would overcome the general principles that society has lain over the years. It begs the question or ‘thirst’ for morality. Explaining sexuality as a biological concept through which people have limited control over defies the morals and beliefs of any society which regulate behavior.
Nevertheless, designer babies are paramount to feminism because feminist groups have been fighting during most years of the decade now to get the thing done differently. The society’s permissiveness in the science innovations and inventions has contributed greatly to the movement. The movement has argued that some groups must be incorporated in the society a situation that has shown the increased social moral degradation in most of the societies. The legalization of the gays, lesbians and homosexuals has given rise to the designer babies since; the work becomes easier for them. The biological concepts seem to encourage on the movements since; they have proven their results making them reliable.
It is however ironic to acknowledge that in the war of ideologies contrary to heterosexual domination, the social constructionists have made their theory a record influential tool in the rational groups. This may be just the new convention in feminist, progressive and in the circles of people with different sexual orientations. This however has led to a minor impact on governing authorities and the many volumes of books written on sexuality and those on biomedicine. In fact, the effect is too minimal that it almost ridicules the whole construction theory.
Conclusion
The social construction theory presents many fundamental and serious possibilities in hypothesizing about sexuality. Nevertheless, a fine line has to be marked between the construction theory and the essentialism theory. There is a high tolerance of assumptions and ambiguity when this theory alone is put into consideration. This indicates the need to converge the two theories to ensure a balance is achieved between science, biology and nature. Sexuality has been a sensitive topic among most people who believe that they should have a right to choose who to relate with sexually. It is therefore a sensitive topic in which all thoughts and opinions from diverse people should be acquired before writing articles or developing theories to explain such behaviors.
