The American/Mexican border portrayed as a hard place to live where people from various ethnicities experiences difficult social problems. This boarder is a place where there are various inconsistent on the perspective of various social culture groups. For instance John Sayles, Lone Star movie writer, uses a small town in Texas, Fonterra, to illustrate the all life perspective along the border. The contradicting issues portrayed by movie involve horror and beauty, simplicity and confusion, and brutality and gentleness within the conventional social cultural life.
Along the boundary, the diverse society inhibiting there are divided according to their economic opportunity and ethnic origin. This divide is influenced by the evil practices performed by the past biased sheriffs. In the movie the international border between Mexico and Texas provides an appropriate scenario to explore the tribulations encountered by the multicultural community. For example racial prejudice and gender based injustice is revealed in by Sayles when he describes Deeds as a son with sad eyes and that he cab walk away from countryside and the Sheriff’s badge without giving way his gender privilege or his skin.
The resident in the border, for instance Frontera, contains subcultures that are essentially physiological and political. As a result, physical barrier do not act effectively as a limit to illegal immigration on the region. The racism due to past slavery in Texas is still excised which limits the participation of black American in the socio political life along the border. This is portrayed in the movie when Sheriff Wade powerfully reminds Otis Payne that “black people are expected to know their place and stay in it. The difference in skin color indicates that the segregation and the memories of the past still ruin the interaction of different races in the region.
