Gender and work are two very important aspects within our world today, and while these issues have become much less severe over time, there are still issues that arise. For example; one of the problems that still occur as of today, is that fact that women are still getting underpaid. Even if getting underpaid is on the scale of a dollar less or a few cents, it does not matter, because women deserve to be treated as equally as men. Now, some people would say that women are choosing to be pushed around and degraded. However, the fact of the matter is that this is not the case. If women were allowing themselves to be pushed around still, they would have much less benefits than they have as of currently. Furthermore, the article that I read sheds some interesting light on the possibility as to why women are possibly still being seen as more inferior than men in the work place. As “The Economist”, states, the problem is that women still have to do more than men to prove themselves. This finding suggests a troubling assumption—that we still don’t expect women to be able to do what men can do. We allow that it’s possible, but our baseline expectations are that men are more capable” (“Women at Work: What's Holding Women Back”). In other words, there is a fixed mindset of how women are viewed in society that still has not been broken completely. It is a work in progress, but there have been improvements as well. In closing, gender in the workplace is still an issue as of today. And while, there is still work to be done, the movements and progression that women have made over the past decade are phenomenal. It is only the beginning.
