Over the years, women from different parts of the world have been part of resistance and protest movements that seek to bring about a change from the existing social, political and economic order. They have been in the forefront when it comes to fighting against imperialism, environmental degradation, patriarchy, war, deforestation and much more. They also fight for women’s rights and equality. In spite of having been relegated to the sidelines and not recognized for their commitment, women still continue fighting and there are numerous women who go on fighting and creating awareness about a host of issues that plague them as well as others. The following works talk about women in diverse fields who have made a change and continue to make a difference.

Slide 1: Terpstra talks about various women who have fought the imperialistic order through their writings and work. She mentions a number of women who shun the spotlight and fight for issues like homelessness, poverty, war and women’s rights.

Slide 2: This article focuses on the Kurdish women rebels fighting against the ISIS in Iraq and how contrary to the tradition in the region, women not only take part in combat but also hold more than half of the leadership positions.

Slide 3: The video showcases the role women play in the zapatista movement and how the movement has been molded by them. It also brings out the difference the movement has brought into the lives of the indigenous women.

Slide 4: This article focuses on the many women who keep the Black Lives Matter movement alive and organize massive protests.

Slide 5: A look into the struggles of the palestinian women for their rights as well as the liberation of their homeland over the years.

Slide 6: This looks at the Chipko movement in India and the Green Belt Movement in Kenya which were spearheaded by women.
