Time is powerless to ease mankind's memory about indomitable courage and resistance of women who have been involved in military conflicts. The history of women in the military extends to four thousand years into the past. This phenomenon is present in numerous cultures and peoples. Women have played a lot of roles in military history, from the ancient warriors of the Amazons to the commanders of modern warships. However, women have shown the ability to adapt quickly to the conditions of military service, they do not give up in difficult life and professional situations, and can show resolute and uncompromising commitment to justice. The traditional role of mother and housewife can be changed in military time because of self-sacrifice, patience, creativity, peacemaking.
During hostilities women tend to work on the front as the nurses, signalers, cooks. However, there are many examples of women who shared the ideals and aspirations of their country so played the role of scout, sniper or machine-gunner. The discussion about the possibility of increasing the proportion of women in the army is still continuing despite the fact that more and more countries are beginning to expand the role of women in their armed forces and “roughly 15% of today’s military are women” (Margittai, 2014). The military experience indicates that the presence of women in the military to a certain extent refines the socio-cultural relations in a military collective, often stimulates the social and official activity of men in the right direction. Military experience shows that the presence of women in the military environment enriches and ennobles the relationships in the military collective, they often stimulate the social and official activity of men in a favorable direction.
The image of women giving and preserving life corresponds to the aspirations of women in eliminating hostilities because they can keep the peace and rehabilitation of the victims of the war in reality. The role of women in the creation of important organizations to the struggle for peace is very high, such organizations are often based behalf of women, and, consequently, women occupy leading positions there.
