Social reproduction’s influence on current women’s issues by influencing the reorganization of social structures to address issues affecting women; structures can therefore be reproduced to maintain the achievements made. Since it is deemed that a generic lack of economic independence, global push for women’s rights, structural adjustments, contribute to the disadvantaged position of the woman in the society. According to social-feminists, the battle for the woman can only be won by influence the structures in the society. When change is structurally effected, it is more sustainable and presents long-term solutions to problems.
Social reproduction, therefore, influences current women’s issues since it leads to the effort to effect change in the organizational/governance level by putting in place structures which can then serve the purpose for women for generations to come. For example, putting in place legislation ensures that the goal is met and replicated in generations to come.
The article promotes the idea of agency. In its assessment of the current social- feminism movement in the 21st century and its move to influence societal structures, Brenner postulates that the movements formed are “creatively developing socialist feminist politics”(Brenner 1). An agency usually acts towards achieving a goal. As presented by Brenner, the 21st Century feminist movement is acting by promoting structures as the agency which drives the change in the 21st century, forming various movements to push for the woman’s course. This agency has impacted a shift the societal position of the woman in major playing fields like politics. The article supports agency by packaging the 21st century movements as the cause of the present achievements of women in the political, government and economic space globally.
