There are many injuries that occur as a result of accidents or violence. Workplace accident is an example of an injury cause. Workplace accident refers to any accident that occurs in the cause of a person’s work. An example of a workplace accident is a third degree burns obtained when a conveyor belt explodes during startup causing a fire in the asphalt plant part of a company. Statistics have indicated that more than 27 million working days are lost almost each year due to third degree burns at work.
This proves that these incidents have serious repercussions.Health and safety executive (HSE) aims at reducing the number of work related accidents. This is through publishing statistics showing different and most common types of the workplace injuries across a wide range of sectors. The employers who are keen in implementing all the suitable measures of preventing accidents in the workplace have very many benefits as well as reducing injuries at work.
For example, there are many pre-event happenings before such accidents as third class burnings. Some of them are dangerous handling of gases that are highly flammable lack of knowledge on handling the gases or some electric appliances that can cause fire. This can be avoided through careful handling of the flammable gases as well as proper training on such dangerous apparatus. The event its self can be reduced through proper installation of fire fighting apparatus so that the fire can be contained immediately it starts. This helps to reduce the intensity of the fire injuries in the work place. The level of intervention that is the most effective for this injury is the pre-event level as it is at this level that the accident can be controlled fully.
