Evaluate Team Member (Self) Effectiveness
Introduction
The paper presents the self-assessment regarding the ability to work in groups and teams. For the attainment of this purpose, information has been presented in multiple sections that help in gauging strengths and weaknesses, and other aspects that are essential for working in teams and groups.
Self assessment of characteristics of good team member
Most of the jobs contain some elements of teamwork. At many places, teamwork is a mandatory characteristic, if companies want to be a successful story. Thus, being a good team member is a key factor that adds value to career development. Therefore, it is essential to build on team member capabilities. I completely agree with test results as it explores the characteristics that I have. Contribution to the team is essential for being a good teammate, and I received high scores in team contribution. Without interaction with teammates, it is not possible to complete the task successfully. I am good in this ability as I was able to get a high level of scores in making interaction with teams. I always keep track on the team, maintain high but realistic expectations, and have relevant skills and abilities. High scores in overall characteristics are the illustration of being a highly effective team member.
Evaluation of strengths and weaknesses
Involvement in social loafing
Social loafing refers to the tendency that when individuals work in a team, or collectively they work less as compared to when they work individually. According to common stereotype view, groups work better than individuals work and contribute to organizational productivity. However, always it is not true, social loafing can occur due to several reasons such as fear of not being recognized, thinking that others are not doing much, unequal distribution of rewards, and due to non-cohesiveness of the group (Robbins, Judge & Sanghi, 2009). All these are the factors that led people towards social loafing, but I have not been involved in such activities. I believe that every individual should perform his/her duty without thinking of others, as hard work and seniority towards the work cannot be hidden; it comes to people in any way.
Effective working in a team gives advantage
The personal experience revealed that effective working in a team always gives benefits to an individual and organizations as well. Each person has some weaknesses; no one can be perfect; but when people work collectively, the blend of diverse personalities complement each other and help in overcoming weaknesses. Through effective working (contributing in a team and making interaction), I learned to handle my emotions, gained several skills and enhanced my capabilities. Working collectively helps in improving individual personalities (Robbins, Judge & Sanghi, 2009).
Normal group development
Impact of effective team member of group development
A team is a combination of some people and the effectiveness of time is based on the effectiveness of individuals that are involved in the group. The effective involvement of individuals or their efforts for the team makes the development process shorter. The effectiveness of a group is observed through measuring the output produced by the team. If a member of the group does not perform effectively, it will affect the productivity of overall team pessimistically. The effective contribution of team members helps in moving the group development process to the next stage (Robbins, Judge & Sanghi, 2009).
Conclusion
At many workplaces, team working is a common phenomenon and demand of competitive arena. Effective team working can transform organizations and can help in developing open channel communication channels, high moral, an individual sense of purpose, identity, and improved productivity.
