Introduction:
The society is a vigorous blend of good or evil, negative or positive and this ensures the sustenance of problems that constantly dwell within our social conservatories. Issues are a regular feature in the existence of any society which is often born due to the unfair performance of various tasks which leads to inequality in all sectors of our life. The society that we live in this era contains a huge number of problems that are in the continuous process of eruption and victimization. Many problems catch the limelight and are addressed by the authoritative individuals, while others remain hidden in the caverns of ignorance and are often given no importance at all. One such problem which has seen a massive growth in its implication and is becoming a nuisance to the society is workplace bullying (Woodrow & Guest, 2014).
A workplace bullying can be defined as an act of inflicting physical or sexual abuse, or socially harassing, psychologically affecting and causing disturbances in the life of people belonging to one's working area. When a person is made to endure pressure at the hands of their fellow employees, their superiors, their competitors or even their juniors then they are characterized under professional bullying. Workplace bullying is becoming an increasing complication in the society due to its adverse effects and the negligence that is often associated with complaints belonging to this category of bullying (Montes et al., 2013).
Bullying at work has been notified to be a collection of various abuses and obstructions that an employee can create for their colleagues.
Women are seen to be more prone towards workplace bullying as they are often subjected to sexual molestation by their bosses or seniors. The problem lies in the lack of recognition of this issue as a major affair and is ignored to be a usual disturbance in the office matters. Female internees are usually manipulated to be directed towards a sexual drive oriented by their handler and they often remain silent over this matter for fear that their degree or course might get affected if they were to complain about. Women bosses can also be given less priorities because of their gender and their decisions can be considered as less important. Many times, different individuals can bring about their professional jealousies into action by sabotaging the career of their fellow employees (Heretick, 2011).
They can do this by either planting errors in their work, spreading rumors about their reputation or provoking the development of a negative air around them. Engagements of verbal arguments or physically harming a person are all included in workplace bullying. Even though sexual harassment is recognized as a provocative criminal activity and its performance in any region of the society is considered a violence of rights, but its practice in the cases involving workplaces is reduced for different economic and imaging purposes. Apart from this, no law defines the reaction in the form of a legal entity against any or the above mentioned molestations or inters workplace abuses. This leaves little space for such problems to be addressed or even allowed to be eloped out on the surface. And this further aggravates the situation by giving a heads up to those people who perceive that nothing can touch them for their heinous exploitations (Hall & Lewis, 2014).
Further Explanation:
Workplace bullying can be further understood by the different varieties in which it is observed, as this helps us to actually analyses reasons and notions attached to this performance. Bullying in work is also segregated to the different ways in which man perceives other people and attaches different ideologies with their personalities. Race is a very major attribute in the enactment of workplace bullying, as it challenges the endowment of man towards people of different creed working with them. It has been found out through research and demonstration studies that about 34% of black natives experience bullying in some way or the other in the United States of America. This is a living proof of the fact that the difference of color is still a transgressing factor in the society and there is a long way before we can achieve a perfect liberation of blacks from the assaults they have been directed towards since their origin (Galanaki & Papalexandris, 2013).
The kind of work chosen by an individual can also affect the bullying factor inflicted on him. Almost 45% women around the globe working in corporate businesses and multinational companies have registered complaints against the different levels of abuses and harassments they had to go through during their tenure. But bullying cannot be restricted to only women, men working in places dominated by the female like the fashion industries and glamour enterprises often visualize a discrimination and matter of fact , molestation in certain scenarios (Woodrow & Guest, 2014).
Age can also be factor that might affect one's working experience. Young people who are assigned above older people due to their academic excellences often become the target of in-house bureaucracies and diplomacies. Such people are seen as a threat to the position and rights of the older employees and thus they strive to eradicate this threat. This kind of bullying can be as severe as physical attacks or attempts to obliterate their life and should be addressed with a lot of seriousness and maturity. The human mentality cannot accept the fact that they are asked to work under a person who is younger to their ownage, it's a depletion of morality and social acceptance. And this human emotion keeps developing and finally erupts in the form of a highly dangerous violating act (Farmer, 2011).
There are various other reasons that could arouse the destructive nature of man against his fellow work colleagues and sprout the need to inflict some sort of damage to them. The above mentioned are only a few but are the major causes of workplace bullying. Bullying is an action that is initiated by the brain and the defect lies there. It should always be noted that bullying can have a severe effect on a human being. The effect could be of mediocre frequency or could completelydisrupt the person. Careers can be dismantled and the individual's entire life can be shattered. Hence, workplace bullying should be given a high priority and taken much more seriously than it Is in the current state. Laws should be written out to liberate people odd this damaging practice and help the victims achieve some level of sanctuary (Montes et al., 2013).
Solutions to this societal problem:
Bullying is such a prevailing problem in the society that it cannot be left alone without any attention or action, otherwise it proof to be a devastating factor in many lives and functions. The constitution of any country of the world doesn't provide any solid, comprehended punishment or legislative procedure that can be followed when a case of bullying encounters the tables of the enforcement agencies. And workplace bullying is considered as the most inferior of the bullying types as it is seen to involve mature, adult individuals who are capable of tackling with their own problems (Escartín et al., 2015). So, in a way if we look at this from a positive perspective, the problem solving can actually begin by consulting the two parties involved and bringing them towards an open dialogue. For this to happen, a third party needs to intervene that has clear understanding of the situation and shows no bias towards any individual. Each individual could get an opportunity to talk about the problems that he or she faces at the hands of the other.
The other should then be given a time to defend themselves and explain their prerogative over the matter. Although this sounds as a very mundane way of tackling the issue but it actually proves to be beneficial as after sometime in the session, the two individuals begin to actually figure out the troubling aspect of the professional relation. After the dialoguing a solution seems to grow out itself and if does not, then the arbitrator can actually suggest some sort of clarifying mandate upon which the future behavior can be modeled into. (Salin, 2015)
This is rather a simple method of keeping matters In doors and trying to bring about a solution without having to go through legislative screening. However, if the issue seems to be persistent and no sense of relief is granted to the individual then they can acquire legal help. Although there is no legal function that assists in the actual bullying process, there are many laws which prohibit the exploitation of one individual over the other. The government can aid in inhibiting a person from even interacting the other person, provided that they have a legit reasoning for such an authorized action to be implemented. This can prove to be of great help especially conflicts like physical violence or threats starts commencing in the bullying.
Other than this another solution could be taken by the internal management of the corporation. Every organization should create an insightful proposition and (Quigg, 2015). A charter should be driven out which should embellish all the rights and duties of the employees. It should map out the different situations in which an employee could be victimized or implore victimization. Then documentation should be done regarding the propelled explications that could be carried out if any such act of bullying is rendered within the premises of the office. And this charter should be included in the agreement that is drawn upon employment.
In this way each employee knows the limitations of their interactions and correspondences with their counterpart colleagues. They also realize the major steps that could be taken against them if they were to have any intention of violating the charter. This can prove to be one of the most successive methods of restricting workplace bullying within any organization. It can also help in the efficiency of employees who can work without any thoughts.to cause damage to other employees as they are well aware of the damages that would reciprocate to them (Tambur, 2015).
Thesis Statement and Arguments on the thesis:
Bullying has become an obnoxious issue in different working organizations. It is not necessary that these organizations have to be multidimensional companies, they can be simple schooling systems, hospitals, small businesses or even the technical job departments like automobile mechanics etc. Bullying is actually the human urge to dominate another individual's personality morally, mentally or even physically due to their issues regarding that individual and this tendency can be clearly seen in all kinds of people belonging to different races, castes, riches and locations. Hence, it can be very determinately said that no sector of working grounds are liberated by the exploitations of bullying and no region of a working body is free from this curse.
The statement: “Workplace bullying is not as obvious as a schoolyard bullying, so businesses need to have policies in place to try to prevent this form of workplace violence", can be easily incorporated in the article it very well defines the autonomous calibration of bullying in our working society. The importance of understanding workplace bullying is very potential because it is not only an incrementing factor but is also a serious issue as it involves professional individuals fighting against each other for different conservatory issues. Workplace bullying is becoming a matter of great trouble as it not only disturbs the entire environment of the organization, but it also deteriorates the progress and efficiency of the company's output (Tambur, 2015). The problem with this kind of bullying is that it remains hidden and silent, creating a sense of cold war which keeps erupting in different negative forms but doesn't really comes out as a fierce battle. Workplace bullying often remains unidentified and in the sheets long before a severe dysfunctioning event diverts the attention towards them.
Many researchers argue with effect that bullying has nothing to do with the physical experience, it is rather a mental and psychological state of mental depression. Experts sometimes also propose that bullying in working places is often just interpreted and not actually occurred (Quigg, 2015). However, realistic reports show that workplace bullying is a well proved phenomenon which seems to be experienced by almost every industry and organization. Workplace bullying is the condemning behavior of professional individuals who work against the successes and progressions of other individuals. It also reflects the mentalof a human tolerance which tends to get shattered when opportunities are driven from their dome of experiences to other people's fate. It is definitely all based on the psychological state of mind of affected people, but its implications are far deep rooted than that.
Jealousy, for instance, has been seen as a major factor that brings about a sense of bullying in the eyes of the bullying agent.
Jealousy can be aroused when a person encounters discrimination at the hands of their superiors, which is often the result of bullying at other people's end. So, it comes off like a chain reaction affecting the mentality of individuals working off its way through the different levels of employer discretion. Bullying is not necessarily a pronounced expression, it is often underlined in the emotional dissection of performances and comes out in the form of pessimistic aspirations. Apart from jealous another major factor affecting workplace bullying is the sexual attraction between the female workers of an office and the male employees. There is an ongoing sexual tension which keeps the female workers on their guard always and they feel unprotected. Often female members are victimized into sexual harassment which is many a time kept as a secretive affair for fear of insult in the society (Escartín et al., 2015). This form of workplace bully is very common in the Asian countries, where women are considered a species of enjoyment and pleasure. They are subjected towards torture both physically and mentally. These aspects make it clear that workplace bullying is a major problem which needs to be addressed with great attention and care. It is not a condition where people can get ignored and still manage to be of the same caliber. It needs to be catered with perfection and given absolute priority, as it is not a simple matter but a very aggressive and tensed activity which can cause severe damage to economy, personalities and character building of an organization (Woodrow & Guest, 2014).
Ethical Outcomes and cultural/social influences:
Workplace bullying affects not only the individual under the highlight of the situation but also the surroundings of social and cultural circles. The people that inflict such demonic prepositions on their fellow colleagues comprehend a threat to the outer environment as well due to their evil planning’s and manipulations. Sexual harassment, which is usually imposed upon women, opens up the dark side of the male members which remains hidden due to ethical boundaries. It’s very common that women feel insecure and keep such occurrences to themselves, either to maintain their jobs which might be important to them for the monetary basis or to improvise their careers (Bulutlar & Öz, 2009). However, if it does come out onto the surface, it leaves other girls who expectant of entering such organizations demotivated. It also reflects thepresence of an individual who can be a threat to many other people in their daily lives, due to their ability to conduct expulsions of their desires on any possible target (Bulutlar & Öz, 2009).
Other kinds of workplace bullying which have a less severe ethnicity and are mostly directed through verbal or intentionally planned situational abuses also leaves a bad impact upon the working class. Firstly it dismantles a friendly atmosphere in the office, which is utmost necessary for the growth and development of the company. Everyone in the company starts to boggle about each other in their quest to cutup the roots of their fellow employees. This kind of behavior is not only unethical and antisocial, but it also diverts the attention of the working individuals towards useless tasks which further lowers down the capabilities and competence further more. It also disturbs the individualistic family life of each member as a depressed and convoluted mind lends nothing but aggression and anguish towards the people he interacts and comes across with. An organization where the employees and the bosses are constantly involved in bickering about each other and planning out strategies to lower down the respect, success and efficacy of peers and colleagues never succeeds in providing good quality services. This renders a deficient economic growth and leads to various problems to the country on whole and the employees individually (Rhodes et al., 2010).
Conclusion:
The society is a cluster of problems, complications and dilemmas which affect different sectors of the world. Different contemporary problems surround our environment and we deal with them trying to restrict them from our lives. Some encounter us in the education world when we are young, some become enveloped in our domestic lives and others affect us in the working atmosphere. Workplace bullying is becoming a factor that is increasing withthe changing escapades of the world. Bullying in any form is not acceptable, but when kids or immature people do it can be considered as an action done under the influence of adrenaline stroked body systems. But when sensible, professional and qualified people show enmity and aggression against each other for mere jealousy admonitions. Workplace bullying is a very estranged problem which is often left unnoticed or purposefully referred to. People in authoritative positions try to shy away from it to avoid the big elephant in the room.
Workplace bullying leads to a major psychological and mental instability in the affected individuals. Bullying initially deploys the person into a cloud of uncertainty and then leads them into deep down depression. They begin doubting their inner personality and finding faults in their own self. Bullied people tend to fall low on their career graph and become highly affected in their active enforcements. Bullying is followed as a projection of disorientation and usage of one's might in physicality, mental status or intellect. Workplace bullying leads to dismantled pacification of the systems of the office and the differencemechanics of the workplace becomes badly affected and disrupted (Escartín et al., 2015).
It is to be noted that the infighting of employees affects the total power generation of the company and in turn lowers the aptitude of its potential. Bullying propelled the differences between individuals and ignites an unnecessary war, which objectifies the need to bring down the other person to a level that satisfies their own deficiency. This leaves everything to be completely concord into a malfunction and dislocation of ideas, resulting in resurrection of the company's goals and objectives. Workplace bullying should be approached with a mentality of efficient mechanism and righteous handling, where the problem should be constituted to appropriate routes and driven into authorities that can make a difference. The employees complaints should be taken with obliged priority and action should be taken with full fervor against the infiltrators. Only then can this problem be slowly and steadily be extracted from the roots of our existence (Escartín et al., 2015).
