Making a good professional impact is considered a plus towards achieving professional success. From the very moment that one meets a potential employer and anyone on professional grounds it is imperative that the other party gets a feeling that you are qualified and best suited for a given job. I just learnt that it is very important to be confident, concise in presenting myself. Developing links and connecting with fellow professionals is also very important. The session was an eye opener into some very important aspects that I had not really given much consideration there before. I just realized how hard yet easy it can be to apply the thirty second elevator speech. But it is a tool that I will definitely use for now I know it plays a very crucial role introducing myself
Before even getting into the job market, there are some aspects about myself that need to be worked on in order to survive in the competitive job market. This is my academic prowess. My credentials need to be impeccable for them to create an impression that I am a serious contender. This means that working very hard and performing well in class is part and parcel of a successful career. Aside from this, personality also needs to be on the edge. This means that the two go hand in hand and that they complement each other. This was an eye opener on my part because now I know that the two really matter.
Developing a brand is quite essential. While at it, looking up with people that I share interests and passion with will help in building myself. This is the point where networks such as LikedIn come in. A good profile projects a person and portrays their personality and character. It is even much better if other social media profiles can be very good in backing up one major profile. It is at this point that many more people can get to know who I am. A few recommendations that can attest to good work, when attached to the profile can go a long way into creating an impression that I can be trusted. All these details should be brief and up to the point and above all, they should be clear. At this point, a few words will have said volumes about me.
When the profile is all set, then one needs to join groups that are of interest to them. Groups are quite good because it is from them that one can see a variety of job openings. UT Dallas Alumni also have formed several groups, presenting a platform where one can relate, share and interact with parties that can help in introducing one to potential employers or job openings. And while at it, it is good to let others know about your career goals because this also sells one out. The best thing that can ever happen about all this is the fact that one can apply for a job online and end up getting it.
