World Health Organization is an umbrella body whose concern is to advise and coordinate matters of health across the world. As a health management body, it has set some standards or characteristics which define it practices. These characteristics include monitoring and assessing health aspects across the globe. This characteristic is critical to setting mitigation measures for disease prevention. Arguably, approaches employed by the agency are critical to the realization of desired change in global health.
The World Health Organization provides leadership on health issues and engages in joint partnership with respective bodies (Wagenaar & Burris, 2013). This characteristic enables this body to set standards for health across the globe. It engages in joint research with a health organization such CDC in order to develop concrete measures against developments in health. The World Health Organization is concerned with the articulation of ethical and evidenced-based policy. Since its inception, WHO has developed various health policies as well as overseeing the implementation of the same. Much of the policies developed borders on aspects of emerging diseases, resistance diseases, and other concerns in the health sector. For example, the agency developed the millennium health goal (Reeves & Brundage, 2011). This policy did not only set standards of health across the globe, but also acts as a ground for measuring health trends in the world.
The organization plays a pivotal role in providing technical support, designing sustainable institutional framework, and enhancing change in healthcare. The world has embraced a number of institutional developments related to health as advised by this institution. This follows research as well as constructive consultation among the healthcare providers across the world. In conclusion, the characteristics of World Health Organization tend to define the purpose of this agency.
