Every person is talented in something. Of course, sometimes it is difficult to understand what your talent is. Sometimes parents and friends don’t believe in a person laughing at him and saying that your dreams are not real. That is why there are so many people in our world who seem to have just an ordinary life, but inside there is an anguish they can’t understand. If that happened in your life, it doesn’t mean that you have to give up, it is never late to start all over again and make your dream come true.
There are some bright examples showing and proving that we have never give up on our dreams, especially when we are old. Anna Moses was one of those kinds of persons. Her live started only when she was 70! She became a great artist! She grew up in a poor family, never knew how good could a person could live. But everything was changed! She lived 101 years and painted 1600 different paintings. She used to say that she was very happy when her life was ending up, because your life takes the turn you want it to take.
This is just a simple example of how everything is possible even if you are 70. It is really amazing, this is a deed, because many of modern old people when they are 60 give up on themselves, they think that their lives are over. That is not true, life is a fight, fight for a dream, because without dreaming a dream we are dead no matter how old we are-17 or 70 years old!
The greatest example that I have ever come across with is a dream of the Bert Munro whose life story was shown in a movie “The world’s fastest Indidan”. So Burt Munro was a New Zealander who spent years building a 1920 Indian motorcycle - a bike which helped him set the land-speed world record at Utah's Bonneville Salt Flats in 1967.This movie is a genius one, that has hero, an aim, humor and real life. This is just a story about an ordinary man, who could be your neighbor or an acquaintance, that is told from one generation to another, that is much better than a fiction or fairytale. This is a story tells that there is no word “can’t”, but only “Don’t want” , that the loss of money , neither the loss of time are not the real reasons to do or not to do something. This life story proves us that every person feels and knows his mission in his life, but not all of them step forward and decide to dedicate his life to that, to be honest with yourself and realize that you are the best cook, or mechanic or best cleaning woman. This movie is the best motivator for the people who always postpone something and forget about that with a time. And postponing a dream could bring you to a Great depression. The same thing happened to Burt Munro. The great depression almost swallowed him. According to his biography he gave up on his dream and came back to his father on the farm. Because of the depression he couldn’t continue his career as a racer. It took everything from him. But what it could do, it couldn’t take the dream from Burt away. It almost happened, and in that situation everything depended on him: he didn’t give up, he hold his dream tightly to his chest, to his soul, to his heart.
Burt Munro has bought his bike(Indian) and since 1926 he tried to modernize it. He spent 44 years to make his bike the fastest in the world. Most of the items he made by himself of items he had in his garage(old needles, parts of machines, gas pipes). As a result he changed the engine completely and also made a case for it that looked like a racket. So he lived his ordinary life kept working in his garage and he almost forgot about what he dreamed about. But one day the death came very close to him (he got a heart attack) and made him think that there is no better time to fulfill his plans because his age is not going to last long. That was a really great push for him. What also was very important to him is love. In one of the scenes the woman who Burt loved said:
-“What all are you staring at? Old man needs love too!”
You have a dream or even you have reached a lot in this life, but you don’t have love and you are not loved by somebody, everything will seem very sad. Yes, he was loved, but hardly someone believed that he could set a record. Even knowing that fact he decided to keep moving to his dream. Once he was asked:
-” Aren’t you scared to kill yourself if you crash?”
Burt answered:
-”No!You live more in 5 minutes on the bike like this than people live in the whole life. Time goes by so fast. Danger is a spice of life”.
Then he tells about his childhood about a brother that died accidently and he says:
-”Since then I tried not to be scared of anything”. He is 62 and he still tries not to be afraid of anything. He faces all the difficulties very bravely. He doesn’t have money, he goes and lays in debt his house, because is ready to do anything to fulfill his dream. He cannot afford ticket from New Zealand to America, so he get hired on the boat as a cook. He was fooled several times in America, but he kept moving. He conquers America with his open heart, honesty and kindness. People help him and he is always ready to help back. In spite of everything that happened to him (good and bad stuff) he reached his “Holy ground”(he calls the place where races are hold). Finally he participated in competitions and set a new record. He reached what he wanted, his dream came true. So he proved everyone that a person can do everything in order to fulfill his dream, even when all the circumstances are against you. Burt overcame all the problems that were on his way, even the death , but he got what he wanted whole his life.
This film is an amazing example, especially old people has to watch it. As a rule people in the age of 60-70 start thinking that they are good for nothing and it is very late to do something, but this film, this life story proves them wrong. This life story seem to be unbelievable, how dream comes true. But it’s life, everything can be possible! Everything that was showed in this film is possible, and I would like to cite the words which Burt said when everything was ready to his trip:
-“I always thought, that a human being is like a grass. In the beginning, when it is spring, it is green and healthy, but with a time when it gets its maturity, grass enjoys the summer, but suddenly comes the autumn and step by step the man is withering like grass, and then passes away and never comes back”. And one more when he talked to a neighbor (little boy who visits Burt very often) :
-”I tell you something son, when you don’t follow through you dreams you will turn to be a vegetable”
-“ What type of vegetable ?”-boy asked
-“ A cabbage! “
This film could inspire every person. And the bike and the winning on the race are not the points .The point is that you can get what you dream about. “World’s fastest Indian” is a film of a dreamer and for dreamers. This film is also for people who hasn’t found the dream yet or doesn’t believe in it existence. Burt is an example and have to learn from him. We have to learn how not to find the reasons why not, not to blame the circumstances, not to get broken because of the difficulties, but just work on the aim we have. And the most important thing that we could get from this movie is that always a dream can be embodied, even if you are not very young. At any age the life could be wonderful, if there is a place for a dream and things you like to do. There is no world “late” for doing something that means really a lot for you.
There is only one thought left to say out. Could you like Burt go step by step 44 years to your dream?Do your best in spite of all bruises, concussions, injuries? I mean really fight for your dream but not just sit on the couch and think how great it would be if something like that happened.Perhaps somebody would call Burt a crazy man, but only crazy man change the world for the best.
