A great amount of my life has been dedicated to travelling and business. I was born in Africa, and have had to work hard to obtain the profits I have gained from it, especially due to the objectives I have set myself. Among these is the constant drive to improve both my knowledge and my practice. I find the NYU Shack Institute of Real Estate’s Graduate Certificate Program to be a magnificent way to push myself even further towards excellence.
One of the characteristics of my voyage through life has been the constant progress I have made in my professional career. I come from very humble beginnings: Ghana, in West Africa, a country that is very poor and wrought with war. The possibilities there are not much, but I learned how to make the best of them, building myself up to be a successful and wealthy businessman with regards to those standards. I began as a volunteer and then became an intern, working myself up to operating a property management company that manages 1.5 million worth of real estate, which is what I am doing at the moment: a real accomplishment!.
Through my experience, I have discovered that the theoretical and practical domains of education are not only both necessary, but complementary. I began studying these subjects by myself, with the books that I could find online. Nevertheless, when I actually started to work, I saw that it did not always completely fit with what I had learnt. I saw that theory could help me out in practice, at the same time that experience allowed me to understand the theory better.
Perhaps the greatest factor for this success has been the clarity with which I have set my goals. Even though I have already reached many accomplishments, especially when where I am coming from is taken into account, I believe that I can still reach much more. I have sought to be the best, but realize that this takes both experience and preparation. That is why I believe that this program will help me along with my goals, as it will give me some of the theoretical and practical instruments I need to make my business better. Furthermore, it will place me on the correct path towards continuing my educations, especially in the Master’s Program.
One of the ways that this course would help me is through its classes of Excel modeling and Argus software training. Even though I have some knowledge as to the use of these two software programs, I still need to perfect them in order to be proficient in their use.
As I am very determined, the proximity and class modality will be very beneficial for me as well. As a I am very busy, yet I still know that learning and keeping myself up to date are very important. In this sense, this program would be of great benefit, as it offers hybrid online classes for adults working full time. I am a travelling consultant, who is not always in the city, so the flexibility would come in very handy; in this sense, the fact that it is in close proximity to my place of residence and of work is also very helpful, as the time I need to invest in transportation is minimal, being able to focus on other goals.
Finally, if all of this was not enough, the reputation that this institution has is almost unmatched. It would be a privilege to work with such fine people in such a superb place, and become a part of the strong alumni network that it has begot. This will submerge me in my target market for investments, allowing me to network right where I need it. I want to be one of the best businessmen in the world, and I know that this program will help me towards this goal.
