Comparison of Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac, and Linux has always been very important for the users.
Windows is one of the most popular operating system developed by Microsoft. Windows OS was originally based on MS-DOS. These series of Windows known as the 9+ series. All of the following Windows operating systems are based on Windows NT.
Mac OS X is an operating system developed by Apple and is now the second most frequently used after the Windows OS. OS X, unlike Windows, is based on UNIX. Thus, OS X is considered part of the family of UNIX operating systems like Linux.
Linux is not really a single OS, but rather several distributions based on the initial UNIX system. Linux is very popular for servers. It is not as popular as OS X or Windows, but its popularity is growing. Unlike OS X or Windows, Linux has a free and open source. There are many versions of Linux, such as Ubuntu, Open SUSE, etc.
Viruses. It is generally considered that using Linux and Mac you cannot infect your computer with viruses. This is not true because OS X is just as vulnerable to viruses like Windows. The reason why Windows operating system is the most vulnerable to viruses is that most viruses are programmed to it. However, this does not mean that the system itself is more vulnerable. It seems that Mac OS X has no viruses aimed at infecting it, but the main reason is that hackers do not work hard to make the viruses for OS X because the number of Mac owners is lesser than Windows’. Thus, there are not many incentives for programming viruses for the Mac (Hill).
Stability. Many can say that OS X never goes down and is the most stable operating system. The same can now be said about Windows. OS X may fail as often as OS Windows may. In fact, OS X is straying more often when you are working with programs that are not approved by Apple. Famous BSOD on Windows are not so common now and are only the fear of the old Windows 9x systems. After switching to Windows NT system, the OS has become much more stable and blue screens are very rare today. Apple's Fans use Windows 90's history as an argument against Windows, even if nobody uses these systems for a long time and these problems have been solved in modern Windows systems. As for Linux, failures also exist but they occur much less frequently than on Windows or OS X. Failures in Linux called Kernel Panic (“MAC vs PC”).
Software. Windows OS has the largest software library, in comparison with any other OS. This means that most of the programs, applications, and games are made for Windows. Such popular programs like Microsoft Office are available only on Windows. Many other programs are exclusive for Windows. Most PC games are currently designed to run only on Windows. Only a few games will run on Mac or Linux computers.
Usage. There is a very common myth that Mac OS X is better suited for video editing. This is not true. Almost all of the video editing programs are multi-platform, this means that they work on both Windows and OS X. Linux is a bad exception in this category. Regarding the application and software development, including the development of games, Windows is definitely the primary platform. Many programs are written in programming languages such as C + +, C #, Java, and Visual Basic. Although some of these languages run on OS X and Linux, the newest and most common work only in Windows – Visual Basic and C #.
Linux occupies more than 60% of server systems. However, Windows can also be used for the server. OS X also has a Server Edition, but it is not very popular and is rarely used, mainly because of the cost. Software and hardware from Apple, as a rule, are very expensive and overpriced.
