Love has many languages. It can be expressed through touch, time spent, affirmative words, helping hand, or thoughtful acts. By understanding my love language, I get to reflect at how I most likely feel more loved by other people and how I express love in return.
I never knew my primary love language until I took the Love Language Personal Profile. In this assessment, I got the highest score in terms of receiving gifts. This means that it is my primary love language. This surprised me at first because I do not measure love in terms of material things, but when I read the explanation of this love language, I came to understand what it is all about. Receiving gifts is not about the actual gift but the thought and effort behind it. As I reflect on my own feeling, thoughts, and experiences, I realized that receiving gifts is in fact my primary love language. Every time I receive a gift from my friends or family, my heart is very delighted. It does not matter what the gift is. I always find joy in knowing that there are people who remember me, especially during important occasions, such as my birthday. This is probably my love language ever since I was a child. I remember when I was in grade school, a childhood friend handed me some of her used toys. She wrapped it in a box and gave it to me as a present even though there was no occasion. Until today, I can remember how delighted I felt, and that memory stayed with me as I was growing up. Most importantly, she remained a good friend until now. I also realized that my love language influenced my actions and expressions of love. I do love to give gifts, and I make sure that I remember important dates that I share with families and friends. Every time I visit a new place, I also make it a point that I get something to bring back home to share with my family. Aside from receiving gifts, it also pleases me to give back to others.
Overall, receiving gifts is my primary language. It makes me happy to be remembered, and I value thoughtfulness a lot. Moreover, I also express love mostly by remembering and giving simple gifts to the important people in my life.
