People are very complicated creatures. It is hard to say where they come from and what rules they obey. However, couple attempts by writers and scientists have been made. Mark Twain is one of the people who was trying to judge people and what the morals that they are trying to obey in their lives. He reached a conclusion that people tend to be highly immoral in their nature even in comparison to different animals. However, it is necessary to state that all people on this planet are different and every person acts according to the life circumstances that come up in life.
People go through different experiences and circumstances throughout their lives. Most of the times these things shape their personalities and attitudes towards life and the way they act. It is important to understand the past experiences that a person went through in order to realize why he or she has become what he or she become. Most of the times we tend to say that people are selfish. But no one does realize what provoked them to become selfish in this situation. Perhaps the past experience in the similar situation left them hurt and they are not willing to open up anymore.
Mark Twain compares people to different animals in his short story. He compares them to roosters, cats (Twain 182). It is hard to agree that people can be seen as low as those creatures.
There is obviously a reason why people own animals and it is the other way around. People are definitely smarter because they are capable of keeping in mind the past experiences and knowledge that they have gained. Many times people will record in their mind negative experience and try their best not to repeat it even if they hurt someone else not their own feelings. People tend to care about their friends and family. For this very reason they often consider the feelings of the representatives of these groups. It is necessary to admit that there are different examples of friendships and family relationships. However, the true examples of these feelings make people kinder and more open to all the people in the world. For example, mothers are always taking care of their children and try to be as close to them as it is possible by life conditions. Mothers tend to experience love for their children in the same way as fathers do. This type of relationship between people makes them so close to each other that they trust each other more than anyone else. There are different examples of the families, however, most of the times people who belong to each other families are quite moral to each other.
The notion of friendship among the human kind makes people very loyal and kind. One person usually finds a person who is close to them by spirit and they become friends. Sometimes this type of relationship can be closer than friendship. Therefore, Mark Twain’s assumption that people are very selfish and self-centered can be disapproved. Friends always try to stick for each other in times of need. True friends never leave each other when times get hard. Therefore, this special kind of relationship helps other to see faith in humanity and understand that people are special breed. They cannot be compared to animals or to anything else in the world because often they have relationships that cannot be found in the world of animals.
Love that exists between man and woman is another unique feeling that makes people kinder and not comparable to animals. Love inhales new feelings into life of every person. When someone is in love and the feelings are mutual, then this person tries to live only for this person and can become self sacrificial just because he or she is full of the feeling of love. Love can give someone the wings to fly and the tenderness in their heart to take care of someone else rather than your personal feelings. It is important to nourish love because it can fade away. However, people who were truly in love with each other would never wish bad for the other person because they appreciate the feelings that have been between them throughout the times when they made each other happy. Therefore, love is a feeling which may be unfamiliar to the lowest animals. Love is very significant for humans and they cannot live without it. Love is a feeling that keeps them together and makes them stronger and happier in their lives.
In conclusion, it is necessary to state that humans are moral and kind creatures because they are aware of the feelings of the other people on the planet. Of course, people are known to treat everyone equally. However, they are trying. Mark Twain was very strict in his characterizations of people and comparison of them to the lowest animals. People are capable of different feelings and activities that animals still need to master. Therefore, people cannot be seen as highly immoral creatures, because they can feel love, friendship. They accept only certain people in their lives, however, they have reasons to do that. These reasons are mostly based on their previous experiences. Also, it is easier to live by knowing that there are kind people in this world and look at everything with a more positive outlook.
