There have been many talks about the case when young people decided to sue the government because of the lack of climate change action. They are mostly dissatisfied with the fact that the government doesn't want to stop burning fossil fuels. According to Chang, “The young people say they have a constitutional right to life, liberty and property, and this is being violated because of the Federal Government’s support of fossil fuels” (Chang). There is some truth in their words. However, it is still rather questionable whether these people truly understand the problem and whether they could find the possible solution to it.
First of all, it is important to mention that if the government stops burning fossil fuels, it will loose a lot of money. As a result, the country's economy will be hurt. Moreover, one cannot but agree that fuels are extremely useful and valuable. They allow people to enjoy all the commodities and advancements of modern life. That is why it is impossible to immediately stop using fossil fuels. Unfortunately, but people still haven't found the replacements for fossil fuels that will be able to produce enough energy. Therefore, it is evident that, if the governments stop burning fossil fuels, it will crush their economy. They won’t be able to provide services to cities and their citizens. That is why it is possible to say that the government is not able to say no to the usage of fossil fuels. However, it should think of the possible usage of alternative sources of energy.
It is also worth considering whether the young people decided to sue the government by themselves or are they simply used by adults? It is clear that there should be really strong evidences in order to sue the government and to talk about such issues. Moreover, the young people haven't mentioned the real effects of using fossil fuels on the places where they are from. On the one hand, the worries of young people about the climate change are quite understandable. Of course, they have the right to think about the health of the planet they are living in. On the other hand, do the young people have the right to sue the government? The usage of fossil fuels is a complex problem and it is questionable whether the young people are mature enough to understand it and to solve it. It is truly important to look at this problem from both sides. It is clear that the young people understand the negative impact of the burning of fossil fuels. However, it seems that they don't understand all the consequences and problems that may appear if the government stops using fossil fuels.
So, what is the best way to act for young people who are concerned with the problem of climate change? It is clear that they won't change anything by bringing the government to the court. By doing so they will hardly solve the problem of burning fossil fuels. Therefore, the best decision the young people could make is to think about possible alternatives to fossil fuels. Only when the young people come up with clear and effective solutions to this problem, they should address to the government. It is possible to say that people should thoroughly investigate this problem and come up with the plan how to decrease the dangerous effects from burning fossil fuels. Only this way the problem of climate change would be solved.
