Speech Review
Background
The speech was delivered by Donald J. Trump on 16 June, 2015 at Trump Towers in New York City. The speech was delivered to the press, trump employees and his supporters.
Summary of Speech
Donald Trump went over the problems faced by his U.S.A and claimed that all the trouble is caused, because the country has poor leadership. Trump also added that other countries have been winning every trade deal with America, as their negotiators are better aware. He claimed that under his experienced leadership, America will start winning again. He promised to bring back the lost jobs and businesses; reduce the deficit, debt and unemployment rate; repeal Obamacare, Common Core; block immigration reform, and he touched on many more issues. Most of his speech was an attempt to relate with the common understanding of politics and politicians held my masses, as he said that they can be bought and sold easily by major corporations and made to work as dummies.
Pros and Cons
Through his words Trump managed to reach out to the public opinion as they share similar behaviour and values. Trump also talked for minutes with gusto and identified possible changes that he will make as President. His confident speech delivery was one of his biggest strengths, as he made several grammatical and analytical mistakes, but still managed to deliver his message and excite his audience with his insults of his opponents.
Outside Critics
The media, critics and opposing politicians went absolutely haywire and focused on the negatives of his speech. The Democrats also claimed that his speech was highly racist and disrespectful towards the masses. His audience and supporters loved him and called him a straight shooter, unlike many politicians who speak diplomatically. The opposing audience openly criticized his actions and claimed that he does not deserve to be the next President of the United States of America (Koffler).
Short-term and Long-term Effects
The short term effect of Donald Trump speech was support from his fans and some members of the Republican faction. Also, the speech helped him gain momentum against his competitors who he insulted in his speech. The long term effect has been his success as the leading Republican nominee during the primary process and increased support from all over the world. Another long term effect has been his high disapproval rating (Wilkie).
Speechwriting Analysis
One of the best elements of speechwriting that trump utilized was Epiphora. It requires repetition of the same word at the end of sentences and clauses. Trump kept repeating losers, make America great again, stupid, not smart, win, rich, etc. Repetition of these words helped in making sure his audience remembered his words and quotes. Also, the end of his speech had a great call to action where he called on the American people to elect him and help him revive the American dream.
Changes in Speech
One of the best skills of Donald Trump is that he is a gifted orator and manages to grab the attention of the masses. But, his speech could have been a little more positive and less racist towards Mexicans. Also, he lied too many times during his speech, which ensured that he failed to get nationwide support. Finally, I would have talked more about mu policies, rather than just insulting others and their policies.
