2015 Media Forum: Mark Ritson
Mark Ritson presentation provides three main things that stand out and affect the contemporary market. The three main points from the video indicate that social media is overrated, the digital market is outdated, and we need integration in the today's market. Mark Ritson shows that social media is overrated by giving an example of how tweets reach a very small population of the Oreo customers. According to the presentation, social media is outdated because marketers continue pumping money into the digital marketing, and it does not deliver. He argues that digital marketing is outdated because People will listen to the radio for more than thirteen hours a week compared to a small population that will only use Facebook for less than four hours. Therefore, integrate both digital and tradition marketing by giving them an equal chance.
Circle
After watching this video, the question that is circling through my mind is the following: - if Mark Ritson thinks that digital marketing is outdated, and people should not invest in them, then why should we integrate digital and traditional marketing?
Square
One thing that really ‘squared' with me is that social media is overrated. Ritson confirms that brands may be having many followers of Twitter and Facebook, but none of the customers is connected to the brand through the social media. A brand may be having around one thousand followers on Facebook and from that number; one-third would not be interested to hear from the brand. This is true for me because I usually get annoyed when I find brands on my Facebook.
