The golden rule quotes relate to the ethical and moral standards of the people in the society. The main common factor that revolves around all the quotes is that, they enhance or promote ethics in the society and communities regardless of the religious or area of origin. One of the quotes appeals about compassion that people should uphold in the society. the quote “One going to take a pointed stick to pinch a baby bird should first try it on himself to feel how it hurts” appeals about inflicting harm on other people based on a person’s happiness yet the other person gets injured (Sims, 2003).
The American Revolution is the political movement characterized by war in the United States meant to ensure that the slaves are freed. The American Revolution is one of the most appealing wars in the United States that was meant to ensure that rights of the people were upheld. The rights of an individual when denied is ethically wrong since rights are entitled to every person. The movement was mainly focused in freeing the United States from the colonial power that could not see the democratic exercise of the human rights to vote. The movement extremely appeals to me due to the fact that it fought for the rights of the people including the slaves in the country (Freedman & Clément, 2002).
I realized the importance of social responsibility when I volunteered to work at a children’s home during my summer holiday. During this period, I participated in numerous events such as cleaning, feeding the children and providing them with the essential requirements that were necessary (Sims, 2003).
The experience helped me understand the need to show compassion to the less fortunate people in the society. The experience was important in helping me grow knowing that I had to care about others just as one of the ‘Golden rule’ quotes said that, “we should love our neighbors more than we love ourselves” (Freedman, & Clément, 2002).
