Valuable insight into the main teachings of Atenism is provided by the Great Hymn and all of foremost principles of Atenism have been outlined in it. Moreover, the differences between the philosophy of King Akhenaten, the supposed composer of this Hymn, and the primary Egyptian religion that existed before his reign have been further outlined in the lyrical verses of the Hymn.

Holocaust literature focuses on a multitude of different experiences, personalities, ethical choices, and behaviors-- both on the part of the victims and the perpetrators. Much of the literature that has been written on the subject focuses on the facts of the Holocaust; however, some of the literature focuses on the experiences of the victims and the aftermath that they experienced as a result of the Holocaust.
However, because this literature focuses on the same central event, it’s possible to identify many common themes that are woven into Holocaust-related short stories, poetry, drama, memoirs, and novels. In ...

Henry Charles Bukowski (1920 – 1994) was an original poet in that he could write very profound poetry without sounding pompous or condescending. Although best known for his humorous works, he mostly wrote on serious topics like love and death. One of his best poems encompassing both of these issues is “For Jane” which is widely assumed to be a lament about the death of his first love. Bukowski compresses his bewilderment, his fear, his rage and his new-found knowledge in the final stanza of the poem.
The stanza begins “what you were” and that’s basically an apt summary ...
Robert Frost depicts the life and landscape of New England in his poetry and uses traditional verse forms and metrics. At the same time, Frost is more than a country poet. He develops universal themes through dark thinking, and psychological portraits. His works are filled with uncertainty and irony. In poems “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening,” "Acquainted with the Night," “Desert Places,” Frost presents solitary lyrical heroes wandering in natural scenery. Their meeting or observation of the nature, another human being or an object arouses understanding of their link to others or isolation from the world. The poems research ...
Analysis of the Poem Do Not Get Gentle into That Good Night
Dylan Thomas wrote the poem titled Do Not Get Gentle into That Good Night in 1951. It is one of the most popular and well-known poems by Thomas. It is dedicated it to his dying father. Therefore, the main theme of the poem is death. Yet the poem goes beyond the classical understanding of death. It is full of feelings, full of energy and even “gives a sense of rising hysteria” (Kendry).Thomas uses a special poetic form of villanelle for his work. This form contains two repeating rhymes (night/light/right and so on) and this repetition helps the author to create ...

Introduction. Night blindness is one of the early warning signs of a deficiency in Vitamin A. Each year, between 250,000 and 500,000 children lose their sight because they do not consume enough Vitamin A, and half of those will die within twelve months of losing their sight. Also, many pregnant women in developing countries suffer from night blindness as a symptom of Vitamin A deficiency, a problem compounded by mortality during pregnancy and childbirth, as well as difficulties in birth and in performing lactation (Rahi, et al., 1995, p. 332). In addition to night blindness, Vitamin A deficiency can impair ...

In the Night written by the Elie Wiesel, the author describes his misery in the Holocaust. He uses the imagery to demonstrate the dehumanization of the Jewish people in the Nazi camp. These Jews were forced to survive deceitful conditions in the concentration camps. The incarcerated Jews were subjected to the most horrible forms of inhuman treatment. This made Jews lose their mentality and morality because they were pushed beyond their capability of dealing with oppressing brutality, starvation, exhaustion and diseases among others. The change of the character and morality can be attributed to the dehumanization that they experienced, ...
Throughout the entire play, Shakespeare shows that sleep is important to the development of the events in the story. Arguably, sleep serves as the channel that runs through the life of each character in different ways. As the characters sleep, they become unaware of the events that happen. In turn, the characters attribute the events in their sleep to dreams as they are unable to explain the events in their sleep. Sleep and dreams overshadows the main idea in the play and lead to the theme of dreams versus reality. The title of the play suggests that the events ...

[Interpretive Question: Why does Adrienne Rich enjoy her moments with her lover when she seems to be against the practice of cohabitation?]
Adrienne Rich’s poem, “Living in Sin”, explores her viewpoints regarding cohabitation, or the mutual decision between lovers to share a single house even if they are not yet married. This poem is not only romance-based, but also suggests implications on the problems concerning cohabitation and having sex outside of marriage, more particularly from the side of a female lover. These conflicts involve the poet’s belief on society’s discrimination against cohabitation, her own sense of moral ...

Midsummer Nights Dream is a play by William Shakespeare that explains the events surrounding the marriage between Hippolyta and Theseus who was the Duke of Athens. The adventures of four young lovers also take centre stage in the play. Shakespeare makes use of magic fairies to bring out some of the most and hilarious bizarre situations in the play Midsummer Nights Dream. He uses magic to embody supernatural power of love which is symbolised by the use of love potions by people in the play to win lovers (Shakespeare, 14). Shakespeare uses magic to create an unreal world in which ...
A Midsummer Night’s Dream has many things to say about the themes of love and marriage; it is mostly portrayed as something foolish and impetuous, with youthful lovers making rash decisions and falling into literal spells. This is most acutely displayed with the subplot wherein theatrical fool Nick Bottom is turned into an ass and wanders into the forest. Titania, having been exposed to a magic potion on her eyelids, looks upon Nick, who now has an asses' face. The two characters meet, and Titania showers him with affection, including the efforts of Peaseblossom, Cobweb, Mustardseed and Mote, several ...
In the history of human thought, there were various issues, which even the brightest minds could not explain or measure in materiality of human perception. One of such issues is and always will be love and its nature. Shakespeare was one of those who managed to perceive the nature of love and explain it in his works. The play which unravels his perception of the nature of love is “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. The aim of the present paper is to outline what Shakespeare meant under the nature of love and how he explained it in his play. ...

Whereas there have been worrying acts of hostility, Australia is commonly considered an excellent practice country in its international student experiences, migration policies, and assimilation of people from diverse backgrounds. Despite a normally upbeat track record, room and chance for improvement are always there, as recent shortcomings in the experiences of international students in Australia indicate.
Recently, foreign students living in Australia have been physically attacked and in fact murdered. Victimization is a shameful and painful experience and must not be condoned in any institutional arrangement or public policy, yet, it still happens even in ...
After more than two hundred years of the first publication, the heroic poem about the adventures of Beowulf is still of high interest to the public. This has therefore resulted in varying opinions among different critics about the nature of certain literature pieces due to the lack of a standard approach or model of understanding literature. However, Vladimir Nabokov in his book “Good Readers and Good Writers” presents a unique ...

Almost Maine is a wonderful heartfelt play by New York playwright John Cariani about the extraordinary tales of love that take place in the town of Almost, Maine. The assertion of this play is that all of these stories across the town take place at the stroke of 9:00 with the northern lights illuminating the slightly surreal, cold and northern night. John Cariani throws magical realism to the bittersweet love scenes in his play with original, sentimental and ultimately pleasant entertainment. Most of the characters in the play are eccentric, but all of them fit well into the small and ...

Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night revolves around the life of Viola, the play’s central character who disguises herself as a man when the story begins. Depicted as a comedy, the play describes a case of mistaken identity and a love triangle involving the three main characters. Throughout the narration, Shakespeare keeps the characters in a state of oblivion and allows the disguised female to keep her secret until the play’s finale. Point of Comparison
The first point of comparison between a happy pig and depressed human can be observed in the major character of Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. After Gatsby’s meeting with Daisy, there was an apparent change in him. It seems that Daisy has a strong characteristic that changed Gatsby from a happy pig into a depressed man. The mere fact Gatsby has the materialistic possessions that only the intellectual individuals would have attained made Daisy believe that Gatsby is in fact a person of intellect. On the other hand, Gatsby’s blooming interest on Daisy opened him up to a profound change. ...

For answering this question in relation to three of the couples of William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” (Hermia and Lysander, Helena and Demetrius and Titania and Oberon), there must be initially analyzed the love between them. Love takes various shapes and there are different ways to love: sincere and tender, having one another when others oppose the lovers’ feelings (as it is the case of Hermia and Lysander), obsessively or accidentally (as it happened in the case of Helena and Demetrius), or with passion and feelings of possession or jealousy (which define the love between Titania ...

Three poems, which have been chosen for this paper: “Because I could not stop for Death” by Emily Dickinson, “A Supermarket in California” by Allen Ginsberg, and “Sailing to Byzantium” by W. B. Yeats, are all very different and belong to different literary trends. However, they all are focused on the subject of death, which they depict from different standpoints, systems of beliefs, and values.

Horror through Imagination: How do Stephen King, Edgar Allan Poe, and Shirley Jackson create suspense in their stories “Harvey’s Dream,” “The Cask of Amontillado,” and “The Lottery”

Suspense is a literary style that is adopted by most authors to invoke the creative minds of the audience. Therefore, the authors intentionally fail to draw a conclusion to an event in a story, but instead live it upon the audience to think. On the other hand, mystery is an occurrence that is beyond human understanding, and in most cases it is associated with murder. This essay is anchored on these ...

The Role Of The Plot In Building Up Tension In Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart” Literature Review Samples
Edgar Allan Poe’s short story “The Tell-Tale Heart” comprises, in only 2200 words, so much cleverly built suspense, that it has become one of his most renowned works. In the story, an unreliable narrator, a mad murderer, tells the story of his murder in order to convince the audience that he is not mad. The story is rich in symbolism and in clues which allow the readers to make sense of the events, to anticipate the murder and to understand the reasons for the narrator’s crime. However, one of the most important elements of fiction in this ...

With the newfound freedom, students aggressively pursue an active social life. Coupled with social activity lies academic pressure. Requirements of academics force students to stay awake at night to prepare for class. A combination of social activity and academic pressure invariably takes a toll on the sleep quality and quantity of students. They, therefore, become inevitably sleepy in class. A number of researchers have explored the aspects of sleepiness, sleep quality and ...

Waiting for Godot
Waiting for Godot by the Irish writer Samuel Becket is a powerful play attesting to the inevitable suffering inherent in human existence. The play depicts this agony even more poignantly by the fact that it is devoid of a well-organized plot and a conventional setting: “A country road. A tree” (Act 1). This is all the setting there is. .Devoid of these familiar elements, the audience or reader has no choice but to face one of the most fundamental elements of the play: an endless wait. As the play opens, the audience or reader meets Estragon, or rather Gogo, who is struggling ...
The novels: “Things Fall Apart,” “The Street: A Novel,” and “Christ in Concrete” shows the poor treatment of women in the society. The characters are true as the social issues in the novels are similar to the social issues that exist in the modern world. Achebe shows that men are cruel to women in many ways as Okonkwo treats his wives poorly. Donato shows that men makes crude jokes about the women in their lives, and Petry shows the lecherous Jones’ advance on Lutie. In essence, women show their strength against the harsh realities that they face in different ...

The overall expositional context of the Great Gatsby concerns a societal conflict between new wealth and the established hierarchy of wealth. However, from the standpoint of the protagonist’s perspective, there is a theme more central than the societal context of the story. This story is a love story about a self-made man who earned his wealth as means to the end of getting the girl. This is the most enduring and universal story in the book. Like a good storyteller, F. Scot Fitzgerald uses symbolism, metaphor, imagery and diction to convey this central message. As this theme is a timeless one, it is one ...

Rick Bass’s short story Antlers is about much more than just the ethics of hunting, and even though its plot is vague, the story is still rich with symbolic meaning. In the story, Bass provides a glimpse of the life of a group of people, living in a small, secluded town. Bass’s story is an example of how humanity has rejected and lost its primal roots, and how confused it gets when interacting with the last remnants of animal instincts. There came a time when human beings came up with the idea that they are distinct and at a higher status than ...
Literature: The Second World War and its Aftermath /A Century Ends
A poem by Theodore Roethke ‘My Papa’s Waltz’ is a representative of postwar lyrics. It describes father and son relationships, narrated retrospectively from the point of view of an adult, who used to be a participant of the action.
A question whether the poem pictures violence towards the child or on the contrary presents us warm relations between a youngster and a grown-up remains arguable. The author shows the act as a beautiful, graceful dance – the waltz. This fact directs us to the idea that for the narrator this experience was not horrible at all. He does not try to idealize his ...
Reflection on the Creative Interpretation of the Scene and the Roles
Our group acted out the Act II, Scene IV and Act II, Scene V of the play “The Spanish Tragedy”, together in order to complete the assignment given to us. As a group we turned the play into a modern style scene using New York to make it closer to the modern lifestyle and to represent the gangster life there. Also because that is how we perceived the tone of the play would best be represented - where Bel Imperia is the beautiful, smart and educated lady princess, on the other hand her boyfriend, Horatio, is trash. I guess our perception ...

In the 1923 modern Italian sonnet, “What lips my lips have kissed, and where, and why” Edna St. Vincent Millay narrates how numerous loves in her life ultimately came to an end and how miserable she felt because of those losses. Millay depicts the explicit meaning of sonnet by using many of different aspects of its form, such as its mood, structure, turns, and particularly the powerful metaphor. This sonnet is centered on two major themes, namely change and loss. The season imagery used by Millay makes the theme of change most apparent. Although most of the sonnet revolves ...
At the turn of the 20th century, the roles of women remained unchanged and their social obligations were limited within the domestic sphere. Gilman’s work is revelation of inner thoughts of a woman trapped within her domestic life. This situation is apparent in the American culture back in the early 1900s. It is the period wherein American culture sees woman as an unpaid emotional slave endowed with a particular task of tending to her family’s needs. In addition to the agitation that women feel due to the kind of imprisonment they perceived during marriage, they also feel the pressure ...
Ernest Hemingway, the author of The Sun Also Rises, was part of a generation of writers who made their mark on the literary scene beginning in the 1920’s. The end of the Great War had significant effects on the attitudes of many artists, who felt that the values under which they had been raised no longer mattered, because of the sheer horror of the war. The horrific weapons that were used for the first time during this war, such as mustard gas, and the size of the war, which dragged most of the West’s major powers into conflict, ...
If we truly are masters of our own fates, then the actions that we take guide the course of our lives; in contrast, if we fail to take action, then our lives do not move forward. In order for a human being’s life to be harmonious, there must always be a delicate balance of thought and action that allows that person to make decisions wisely while at the same time keeping the urge to act on impulse too often at bay. However, if the scales tip to far in one way or another, then the results can be disastrous for ...
