Japanese horror films through the years had made astounding contribution to the movie industry and to the horror genre in particular. One of the notable directors of great Japanese horror flicks is Kurosawa Kiyoshi who is often compared to Andrei Tarkovsky and Stanley Kubrick in terms of directing style and influence. Most of his films are focused on ho a general society affects an individual and how the society also reacts to adverse irrational and disintegrated social mechanisms. Japanese horror movies are not typical to the usual western made fright movies. As observed from many western horrors movies, they incorporate ...

Sounds are important elements of a movie because it enhances the conventions through which people understand the movie they watch and give them the ability to appreciate the concepts inputted in the movie they view. Sound, nevertheless, is being used at differing variations in every movie. There are two types of sound used in films: diegetic and non-diegetic. A diegetic sound is a sound that is complemented by the visuals shown in the film such as the movement of the objects, the voices of the characters, background music. Non-diegetic sound, on the other hand, is a sound that both cannot ...

Adapting a play to film involves a great deal of preparation and selective adaptation - there are unique and distinct differences in format that must be taken into consideration, including elements of style, look and performance. Of no exception is the film version of The Sound of Music, directed by Robert Wise and starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer; the movie deviates substantially from the source material, restaging and reinterpreting events to make them more palatable for a moviegoing audience. While these changes result in a substantially different story, it is nonetheless an admirable and spectacle-filled adaptation of the work that widens the ...

Director: Alfred Hitchcock
Stars: James Stewart, Kim Novak
Objective Analysis: (give a few examples and provide text to support your examples)
Visual component (such as the art direction, camera angles and movement, cinematography, lighting, visual style, etc.):
Hitchcock’s visual style is tense and scary, with great use of focus and top-down shots to get the feeling of Jimmy Stewart’s “vertigo.” The visual style of the opening sequence is dreamlike and unsettling, as is the dream sequence he has halfway through the movie. It really gives the feeling of losing your grip on reality.

The movie ‘sound and fury’ is about identity in a deaf culture. It highlights the difficulty of a family living in the fear of losing their culture that has shaped them for generations. The deaf culture is important to the Artinian family, who fear losing it to a cochlear hearing plant that will force them to associate with a different culture in the hearing world. The concept of culture is, therefore, highlighted as an identity through the common behavior of a group of people. Culture is where a group is bound by the practices that identify them the most. It makes people who they are ...

The following analysis of Persona and Solaris reveals how movies from unlike countries and of different genres portray the development of opposite human personalities while losing or gaining humanity under the external influences and internal self-recognition. The attempts to create a fine movie about internal and external of human life do not often impress much, especially nowadays when we experience an endless flow of visual images. Probably, it inspires people to look back at the classic works that not only represent the unusual transformations in the forms of self but also produce extraordinary rhythms in the scenes (Tarkovsky 113). ...
David Lindsay-Abaire is known for being the playwright behind the play ‘Good People.’ This is one that got a lot of publicity. Films have developed out of dramatic and narrative tradition in which storytelling is used as a central concern. The filmmakers have challenged the manipulative and seductive power of narratives by using playful resistance to the convention of narratives, or by exploring other forms of medium. For example, filmmakers have used the interplays of gesture and rhythm, sound and image rather than relying on character psychology and plot mechanics. However, non-narrative film has a smaller audience than narrative films. A good example is aircraft passengers watching the direction of the nearest exit pointed out by flight attendants, which reminds the audience the ...

The film involves a love story between Miles, formerly a drug dealer and Vanessa, a church girl. The following is an analysis of the film.
The film has some contradicting or controversial biographies and promotes a controversial culture. Movie Review “I'm in love with a church girl”
Biographical and a Cultural Criticism
The movie shows Miles Montego trying too hard to change his lifestyle within a short period. Having been a major drug dealer for a while, and while still maintaining strong contacts with his former colleagues the conversion to Christianity is a tall order for Miles. He is in love with a strict church girl, has just gone through a traumatic loss of mother, faces criminal challenges from the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and has to handle the accident of his girlfriend Vanessa. Miles’s conversion to Christianity ends up not being a climax or a wholly convincing biography.
The film features interracial ...

Movie review: The Artist
Introduction
Michel Hazanavicius' interesting courageous, non-verbal comedy-drama, was a movie that lacked talking but did build up some nonverbal performance. The Artist displays a performance idol in Hollywood right before talkies came on the scene. His marriage appears to be on the rocks, and things start to change for him once he meets the go-getting chorus girl Peppy Miller and is smitten. Very quickly thereafter, sound comes to movies, and George throws every penny right into the last classic silent film, while Peppy turns out to be the infamous star of the new period. This essay will discuss the scenes ...

Takashi Miike's 1999 film Audition is an artful yet horrifying tale of a mild-mannered widower (Ryo Ishibashi) who, in his attempts to find a new wife, falls for a young woman Asami Yamasaki) who is far more than meets the eye. Miike's signature dreamlike mise-en-scene, complete with moody and atmospheric cinematography and strong, vulnerable performances from both leads, creates a twisted romance/revenge film that strongly addresses issues of gender roles and divisions within relationships, particularly as they are applied to Japanese culture. The film explores and critiques notions of romanticism normally found in modern romantic dramas, as the representation of relationships and sexuality in ...
