Simply put, a three phase electric power transmission is a means of transmitting electric power using three wires. Transmission of an ac (alternating current) relies on this bit of technology. Also a type of polyphone system, it is the most widespread means used by electric power distribution grids all over the world to distribute power.
This method of power transmission was introduced by Nikola Tesla in between 1887 and 1888. The workings of this system are quite easy to grasp. There are three circuit conductors which carry three alternating currents that are of the same frequency and which also reach their immediate ...

A collision refers to a physical situation where kinetic energy of momentum of an object is transferred from an object to the other one. In physics, collisions are classified as either elastic or inelastic. Conservation laws; energy conservation and momentum conservation are important tools in the analysis of collisions. Various literatures and experimental studies have confirmed that it is difficult to assess the interaction of bodies during collision. Therefore, main objective of this work is to demonstrate to relate the various parameters such as velocities and masses of the system using the principle of conservation of energy and momentum.
The momentum of an object of mass, m and velocity, v is represented mathematically as shown below:

Introduction and Theory
The main aim of this experiment is to investigate energy and momentum conservation in a closed system. Momentum and energy conservation principles are significant physical variables that engineers use when describing various physical phenomenon. Momentum of a body is a vector quantity, which is given by the product of its velocity and mass. In collision theory, the momentum of the body is always conserved when two bodies collide. The principle of momentum conservation applies to both elastic and inelastic conservation irrespective of the dynamic interaction between the two objects. This report demonstrates the application of momentum equation in determination of motion parameters ( ...

Electrostatic Precipitator Electrostatic precipitators are used to remove dust and other particulates from smoke and exhaust fumes. It used to minimize air pollution and protect the environment. The precipitator consists of a high voltage wires that are fitted across the chimney. The wires are negatively charged using voltage of 50,000V. As the smoke passes through the chimney, they are negatively charged by the wires. The smoke becomes negatively charged because electrons are passed to it from the wires. The negatively charged smoke particles are attracted to the positively charged metal plates that are found on the upper side of ...
Falling Ball Viscometer
- Objective
The intent of this experiment is to find the dynamic viscosity of Glycerol by following falling ball viscometer method. Multiple steel spheres will be used to fall down the liquid and the time taken to fall a specific distance will be measured.
- Background
A body falling in a liquid is subjected to gravitational, buoyancy and drag forces which results in the achievement of a terminal velocity of the fall. According to Archimedes principle, we know that buoyant force is equal to weight of the displaced liquid. Implementing these principles, we get following equations, which result in ...
Falling Ball Viscometer
Objective:
Purpose of the Falling Ball Viscometer experiment was to measure the viscosity of glycerin or glycerol by using falling ball viscometer technique.
Background:
When a body falls in a liquid under the force of gravity, it accelerates until weight of the body is balanced by the buoyancy force and drag force. Terminal velocity is gained by the body at this point. Viscosity of the liquid can be evaluated by measuring this terminal velocity of the body in the liquid.
In this experiment a steel sphere was allowed to fall in glycerol and dynamic viscosity of glycerol was measured by using ...

Experiment 5: Vectors and Static Equilibrium of Forces
INTRODUCTION:
In physics, the subject of statics deals with the description of conditions of force system that is necessary to maintain the state of equilibrium of engineering structure. When a body is in equilibrium, the resultant of all forces acting on it is zero. Main condition for static equilibrium is that the vector sum of all the forces acting on a body must be zero. In this report equilibrium was discussed by carrying out an experiment. For an analysis of a vector quantity like force vector operations like vector addition and subtraction are required and in this experiment this vector operation ...

The integumentary system is made up of the skin together with other accessory structures including nails, hair, as well as glands. The four major functions that are done by the integumentary system include protection, production of vitamin D, sensation, and temperature regulation (Bailey). The integumentary system offers protection of the body against ultraviolet light and abrasion while preventing dehydration as a result of water loss and entry of pathogens into the body (Seeley, Stephens and Tate).
The skin possesses numerous receptors that make it also function as a sensory organ. The receptors are usually referred to as free or encapsulated ...
Sensory Perception
The Nervous system plays an important role in many mammals including man. The nervous system is responsible for the coordination of different stimuli in the body. Environmental changes can be felt in the body due to the nervous system present. The sense of touch, vision, audition and taste can be understood solely due to the nervous system.
A minute change or deficiency in these senses could lead to fatality. A failure in perception of any of the senses makes an individual dependent. Sensory perception is essential for all living organisms and forms the basis for homeostasis.

Most of the microorganisms naturally present in the human body are harmless commensals. However, there also exists other disease causing microorganisms known as pathogens and the mechanism by which they cause disease is known as pathogenesis. These pathogens persist or multiply within the host causing infection. Some pathogens like Pseudomonas aeruginosa are considered as opportunistic pathogens that cause disease only in patients with compromised immunity and only under certain conditions. The infectious diseases may be treated with antibiotic drugs. However, it is important to know the different types of pathogens and the virulence factors by which they cause disease ...

Advertisements are made with an already formulated target audience in mind. The media has put together efforts that aim at maximizing their reach to the target audience so as to guarantee sales at the end of the day, like prime time advertising. Advertisements tend to sell perfection, especially when targeting a huge market base like women or teens, and sell an idea of fixing a problem that could be common among the target audience(Craig’s Article,2006). An example of such is the Quick Trim, which is a weight loss program that largely targets women, and tries to paint an illusionary ...

Dissolved Oxygen
INTRODUCTION
Dissolved oxygen is a useful parameter used to determine the level of effluent in waste water treatment. Living organisms in water bodies require oxygen to break down organic matter. These organisms consume the dissolved oxygen in water and give out carbon dioxide. Oxygen does not readily dissolve in water and gets depleted quickly by increased micro-organism activity. To maintain optimal oxygen levels in a water body, the oxygen replenishing rate from the air should be equal to dissolved oxygen use by micro-organism in the water. A curve drawn to represent dissolved oxygen levels down a stream from a point of effluent ...

Following the story of the use of ethanol to provide warmth in cold environments, this paper presents research on the effect the consumption of ethanol has on an individual’s body temperature. Firstly, the distribution of heat in the body is done by the blood. Through the vasodilatation and vasoconstriction of blood vessels, the body loses and retains head respectively. Given that ethanol enters the bloodstream directly upon consumption, its effects are almost immediate. Its presence in the blood causes the widening of blood vessels due to its vasodilation effect (Eston & Reily, 2013).
This results in an increase ...

This experiment aims at determining the Young’s Modulus (E) by using the strain gauge technique. It is determined for a simply supported beam by measuring the strain in the beam when it is loaded in 3 point bending. i.e. load is applied exactly at the center of the beam. The bending of a beam is an example of Hooke’s Law, which states that, when an elastic body is strained in any way, the deformation is directly proportional to the applied stress provided the body is not strained beyond its elastic limit. In this experiment, Young’s Modulus is studied ...

When objects are accelerated, inertia-forces are generated. This is the case with rotating machine elements. The design of such parts must ensure that they perform their intended work under all the existing combinations of service loads and rotational forces or inertia forces. The rotation of a machine element results in an external vibrating force. The shaking force disturbs the supporting frame of the machine and the adjacent parts. It is also worth to note that the vibration generated by rotating machine elements and consequently the associated noise is also a serious problem to the machine operators. Therefore, it is very important ...

When a body moves in a circle and its angular speed changes, the body experiences an angular acceleration. Torque gives the body an angular acceleration. Rotating a body necessitates to overcome rotational inertia of the body, known as its moment of inertia. In highly symmetrical cases it is feasible to develop formulas for calculating moment of inertia of a body. In this part of the experiment, a constant torque was applied to a circular disk that could rotate on a low friction bearing. The disk span up to a higher angular speed. Object of this experiment was to calculate the disk's angular acceleration and relate it ...

The kidneys refer to the organs that are involved with several important regulatory roles in vertebrate animals. Kidneys play a crucial role in the urinary system as well as in the homeostatic functions such as electrolyte regulation, maintaining a balance between the acids and bases, and in regulating blood pressure. Kidneys filter the blood removing wastes, which are then taken to the urinary bladder as urine. During urine production, wastes such as ammonia and urea are excreted while substances such as glucose, water and amino acids reabsorbed. The kidney is also responsible for the production of hormones such as erythropoietin and ...

Diabetes is a disorder caused by an increased level of glucose concentration in the blood. It is as a result of abnormal metabolism of insulin hormone. The insulin hormone is secreted by the beta cell. Insulin regulates the metabolic process of glucose in the blood. The insulin hormone induces the body cell to absorb the glucose from the blood. The glucose is then used to produce energy ( Baron, S. H. 1980).. The functions of insulin if curbed in a diabetic patient and thus this leads to the poor absorption of sugar in the blood leading to high and increased level of ...
