General features of melatonin
Melatonin is a hormone, which is thought to play an important role in daily processes of humans’ lives, being secreted by the pineal gland, which is an endocrine gland, located in the middle of the brain. Consciousness
Consciousness is hard to define, as researchers tend to describe it with the help of broad terms that usually vary from scholar to scholar. Some of them claim that it is the only phenomenon that distinguishes us from animals, while the others insist that consciousness helps humans to acknowledge the world around them. Overall, consciousness is considered to be an awareness of a person’s mental processes, like thoughts, feelings, or sensations (Taye, 2010). Consciousness experiences tend to change constantly, for example, in one moment a person can look at the sky and in a second read a ...
Rock and roll is one of the most important genres in the history of modern music. The signature guitar styles, drum rhythms, and powerful electric sound allowed this genre to singlehandedly change the way that music was created, presented, and performed. Rock and roll techniques and styles are present in almost every single genre on the radio today, and the traditional rhythms helped to form the basis for other styles of music. Bo Diddley was a rock and blues legend who was so intriguing that he spent over 60 years on the road playing his songs. Born in Mississippi, ...

The history of the fusion of American and European popular music can be traced back to the first half of the 1960s when British musicians started to actively conquer the U.S. audience. However, before dwelling on such phenomena as Beatlemania and the British Invasion, as well as the entire congruence of European and American traditions, it is important to analyze the nature rock music and other genres that appeared popular during those times. “Music is a world within itself with a language we all understand.” These are the words of the legendary musician, Stevie Wonder. It goes to show the extent of the impact of music not only regarding entertainment but also regarding its psychological effects. Music has the power to stir the deepest of emotions and thoughts. In the recent past, the study of music psychology has increasingly become the focus of psychologists and other researchers who opine that there is a positive co-relation between the functioning of the psychological processes and singing, composing or merely listening to music (Zbikowski, 77). ...
Explain the pathophysiology of the impulse origin and the electrical impulse pathway that is associated with the following rhythms:
Normal sinus rhythm
In NSR, there is normal conduction of the sinus impulse through the atria and ventricles. The impulse is generated from the sinoatrial node and is delivered through the atria. Once past the atria, the pulse reaches the AV node where it pauses before continuing through the ventricles. From there the impulse is conducted through the ventricles via bundle branches and Purkinje fibers.
Junctional rhythm
During a junctional rhythm, the SA node fails to fire. Cardiac cells all possess the ability of generating a pulse if the SA node were to fail. The rhythm is typically created within or near ...

Jazz appeared as a social expression of diversity coming together. When different races, cultures, histories and societies meet, usually one focuses on overcoming the other(s). But when this does not happen, what remains to happen is to start working together, build together, learn from each other, and share with the other, with openness, acceptance and joy. This leads to development, through embracing the cultures of the others. Sharing and accepting the cultural diversity lead to artistic creation, through the development of a new form of art, in the early nineties, New Orleans.

The immune and nervous systems are two body structures that have different functions. Moreover, most people may not be able to readily identify the and the relationship between these two. While the immune system is responsible in protecting the body from destructive and invading pathogens, the nervous system is tasked to relay information to the brain. This process allows for the proper coordination of the different functions of the body. In general, the concept of the connection between the nervous and the immune systems stems from the theoretical idea of stress. Stress is denoted both as a physiological and ...

This paper discusses how exercise stimulates the release of growth hormone. Older people tend to have lower levels of the hormone. As a result, mechanisms have been formulated to help deal with the deficiency which includes inducing the growth hormone into the individual’s body. This, therefore, leads to the discussion of the exact mechanism through which the growth hormone facilitates exercise, maintains growth and repair of worn out muscles or even reverses the aging process among the aged. Also, the functions of IGF-I binding proteins during exercise and its importance in aiding the release of the GH is ...

Walt Whitman’s ‘To a Locomotive in Winter’ and Emily Dickinson’s ‘I Like to see it lap the miles’ are two poems that are written about trains, albeit in different styles. While Whitman’s poem is straightforward and the reader is clear that he is talking about a train, Dickinson’s poem uses imagery and a roundabout way to describe a train going through the hills. Both the poems have different tones- Whitman uses a more formal tone while talking about the train, while Dickinson uses a rhyming structure that is more folksy in nature. Both the poets ...

Growth hormone is one of the many hormones released in the human body. This paper discusses the relationship between the growth hormone and exercise. The exact mechanism through which the growth hormone facilitates exercise is discussed in the paper. It is noted that the growth hormone is released rapidly in young children and teenagers but the production slows down with age. Other factors such as gender, adipose and diet also play a huge role in regulating the release of the growth hormone. For that reason, it is recommended that the aged people should exercise more frequently to induce the ...
1.A. Penicillins are β-lactam antibiotics in structure. The remodeling process takes place in the bacterial cell walls due to the presence of a layer called peptidoglycan layer, which includes the breakdown of β-(1,4) linked N-acetylmuramic acid and N-acetylglucosamine and cross-linking peptide chains . Cross-linking peptide chains provide rigidity to the fluid cell wall. Transpeptidase, an enzyme used in the breaking of peptide chains also reforms the peptide bonds after the restructuring of the cell wall. The penicillin inhibits the enzyme transpeptidase, which prevents the peptide bonds from reforming. Thus, penicillin makes the cell walls weaker, which results ...

In order to understand music inside an historical background we have to begin from an ancient point of view and its 3 main elements: Rhythm; Melody; and Harmony and the significance has to do with the order of their discovery. Rhythm is the first and the oldest element of our earliest understanding of music first played by the cavemen. That could possibly be one man banging a drum. The second one is melody, when probably banging was first accompanied by humming. And finally, harmony was added. From what we know today, music is deeply affected by the special features of ...
Music is a reflection of the soul. When we are sad, we turn on some ballad and it seems that music empathizes and supports us, makes it possible to throw out all our emotions and make the right decision. Music relieves loneliness and adds confidence. It fills us with energy and sets the rhythm of life. Music is always with us. Each event is reflected in the music: with music, people confess their love and celebrate holidays. Heartfelt music is folk. It transmits all joy and tears of people. We understand everything it wants to tell us, regardless of age ...
Scholars and acolytes of Gertrude Stein prefer to refer to her as "The Mother of Us All" as the attribution of her last dramaturgical opera inspired by the figure of the American feminist Susan B. Anthony. This definition would suggest a bond of deferential respect and intimate cultural affiliation by certain groups of writers and critics positioned on the edge of the traditional culture. All these scholars were gathered around Gertrude Stein as around a true pioneer of feminism and gender studies. The linguistic revolution that took place in hers works was astonishing and impressed all of them. She was a giant, a ...
The poet, Eliot, reflects on the masterpieces of the Modernist Movement that shows the character traits of Modernism. Eliot the modernist poet, experiments with the structure and form of the poem. Reggae music was born on the island of Jamaica in the late 1960s. It is a fairly recent music genre that has roots in mento, R&B and Ska music that were contemporary musical movements. Recorded music was relatively late in coming to Jamaica with the first recording studio opening in 1951 and recording “mento” music which was a fusion of European and African folk dance music. American R&B music also became widely available around that time. The genre of Reggae may have langered in obscurity and never achieved international status and recognition had it not been for it’s most iconic ...

In this essay, I will argue that geography, including relative location, topography and climate, do indeed affect music, but that this influence has not been as strong in recent history as major advancements have been made in sound technology, most notably the invention of the radio, personal music players, and later the Internet, to lead to the globalization of music.
Furthermore, the education and training required to become a classical musician or composer demands that the musician practice indoors, away from the elements and unwanted distractions. Not only has the evolution of classical music been determined by the elements, but ...

It has always been believed that a child's intelligence is often measured by how smart or intelligent a child is as compared with other children on the same age category. This has particularly influenced how education is conducted in schools, including the methods applied, teaching approaches, and evaluation methods in determining a child's "intelligence", among others. However, studies on children's psychological and behavioral development show that a child's intelligence is not only measured on how good or how fast the child is able to answer mathematical problems. Neither is it measured on whether a child can construct a perfectly clear and concise sentence because some ...

Analysis of Asian Horror Movies
The first movie I would like to analyze is a South Korean horror-thriller movie “Old Boy”, directed by Park Chan-Wook, that was first released in 2003. The storyline is based on a poorly-known Japanese manga of the same name, written by Nobuaki Minegishi and Garon Tsuchiya. This movie is a part of a trilogy called “Vengeance Trilogy” together with “Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance” and “Sympathy for Lady Vengeance”. “Old Boy” won the so called “Grand Prix”(the second award in order of importance) during the Cannes Film Festival, receiving also a special mention by Quentin Tarantino (president of the Jury).

Stomata are sections in plants leaves that regulate the amount of water vapor and gases entering in and out of green plant leaves. Stomata are very essential in the control of water loss through the plant leaves in a process of transpiration. In light plants, transpiration is highest in the presence of sunlight because the guard cells fully open the stomata. Dark plants use the inverted stomatal rhythm and the openings of the stomata are wider in the dark. The opening of the stomata in leaves increases with time: at the beginning, fewer are open but after sometime majority become ...
The modern genres of music cannot be considered to be pure, owing to their long histories of change with time and from one geographical place to another. The major aspects that keep changing with time are the styles, rhythm, dancing technique and wording, but it is normally possible to trace the origin of a single music genre (Dils, and Albright 54). Jazz and Ballet are two different music and dance genres that have some similar effects, yet they have different origins and histories. There are a lot of differences between these two terms. Apparently, it is not quite easy to differentiate ...
