Abstract
Whether or not slaves were owned by free African Americans back when slavery was actually an institution in the United States is one of the most perplexing questions in African-American history. While some Americans might not be aware of and might not have suspected this, but truth, which will be discussed in this paper, is that black people in the country indeed purchased and sold other black people as slaves.
