The tensions between England and her colonial subjects were rapidly escalating. Henry, a young lawyer, spoke to his fellow Virginians of his opinions regarding the colony’s course of action. Henry Patrick is best known for the speech that he made in the House of Burgesses on March 23, 1775, Give me Liberty or Give Me Death. The Burgesses house was faced with a problem of deciding on whether to deploy their military against the encroaching force of the British military. Winston Churchill’s speeches are remembered not only for their oratory superiority but also for their effectiveness and capacity to elicit responses from the public and the general political space. An example of this is the famous Iron Curtain speech made on March 5th 1946, where he changed democratic Western perceptions of the Communist East regions of the Soviet Union. Ethos
Ethos refers to the credibility of the person presenting his speech or an appeal he makes to authority. In other words, it is how well an orator convinces his audience, so that it can be confident in him as qualified to speak on a particular subject. Ethe (plural of ethos) can arise in ways such as one being a notable figure in the field in which he is speaking, for instance, a CEO in a company or a college professor in a certain faculty. Moreover, it can also arise due to one having vested interests in a matter, in question. Nonetheless, ethos can arise by one ...

“It can hardly be argued that either students or teachers shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at the schoolhouse gate”. Such was the opening assertion of the United States Supreme Court in deciding the landmark case of Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School District, decided in 1969. What followed in the constitutional history of what came to be known as “school speech” involves a number of cases that have essentially followed Tinker’s holding, only modifying its nuances and contemplating the ever-changing concern of the state over the welfare of its students and their role ...

Single subject research has always posed some significant challenges to researcher s and scientists working in the field of experimental psychology. The fact remains that unlike popular opinion, single subject research can have statistical validity and can provide the necessary tools to provide usable data during many experiments(Kratochwill, 1978). Horner et al., (2005) provided some useful insights on how to assess the quality of a single subject research paper.

The human brain consists of two halves, the right and left hemispheres (Kennison, 2013). Also known as the logical brain, the left hemisphere regulates language and analysis. On the other hand, the right hemisphere, otherwise known as the creative brain, regulates imagination and daydreaming (Kennison, 2013).
Researchers in the early nineteenth century discovered that an injury on the left hemisphere caused the loss of language and speech abilities (Kennison, 2013). Conversely, injuries on the right hemisphere did not cause the loss of language and speech abilities. Further studies have supported the hypothesis that language and speech abilities are ...

The introduction and advancement of the internet has brought with it many wonderful experiences to the general population. Many individuals today primarily seem entrenched with texting, downloading apps, blogging, and social networking media. All of these, and several other popular outlets, allow the user to have a voice. Portals like Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, and Reddit give the user a readily made microphone; oftentimes the user does not even have to claim their comments. Essentially, many voices on the internet are anonymous. While sometimes this behavior is good-natured, in other situations it can become harassment. It can even become dangerous or criminal. ...

Introduction
Most lawyers grapple with First Amendment Issues Daily according to Professor Marvin Amori as they have to deal with laws that govern and concern speech and consequently write rules on them. Laws on speech are a crucial component in the society due to their significant contribution not only to national matters but also in global corporate boards as well as different public and private institutions. These lawyers therefore have to operate globally and are not only concerned with the First Amendment of the United States constitution but with customs, laws, and practices of different foreign nations (Mark 2238).

Terrorist attacks and their live coverage impact the psychology of people in a serious manner. It is extremely horrific to watch terrorist attacks on television but reading them in newspapers also makes parallel effects on the psyche of people. A lot has been discussed on this issue, and there is a difference of opinion among different sections of the society. Some people say that media is just doing its job while others say that portrayal of terrorist attacks should be regulated, and media should avoid portraying ghastly things. It has been observed in a number of cases that portrayal of such ghastly ...

In everyday life, in trains, buses and in the streets, we can often see the deaf people. They always attract the attention of the public: people strenuously pretending that they have absolutely no interest, yet are secretly watching deaf. What do at that moment people with disabilities to communicate feel? Is it difficult? How is it to live life not hearing a word? What a person feels, whose life lies within his inner world?
For a deaf person the world around is perceived in another way. For example, if parents teach a deaf child to talk, to do it, they need to ...

An effective and successful end of a presentation results from working with both the topic and the audience. It is of importance to understand and relate to those who you are communicating with so as to bond and get through them. The use of professional language is called for in business conference setting, whilst in some situations a laid back approach is preferred.
A poke into the emotions of the audience through the speech presentation provides a platform for inspiration and a way to convince those in attendance. Case study illustrations to portray similar situations being discussed are viable for the attainment ...
Adolf Hitler certainly had the power to mesmerize people when he took to the microphone and his writings have also influenced a great many people which facilitated his rise to power. A typical example would be a speech Hitler gave in September 1938 when addressing a party rally in Munich;
‘The cultural evolution of a Volk resembles that of the Milky Way. Amongst countless pale stars, a few suns radiate. However all suns and planets are made of the same material and all observe the same laws. The entire cultural work of a Volk must not only be geared for the fulfilment of one ...
Autism has a long past, but a short history. The story of autism begins with legends and tales of children being left by elves in return for stolen. In real history already in the 18th century medical texts are known, containing descriptions of people who are likely to suffer from autism (although the term was not used yet) – they did not talk, were excessively closed and had unusually good memory.
Scientist of the previous centuries who approached the problem of people with autism the most was French explorer J.M. Itar, who described this state on the example of a 12-year-old boy ...
According to Hoffman, Bennett and Dell (2009), evidence based practices have helped health sectors grow swiftly as it has helped them improve the patient outcomes. It encourages innovations thereby improving the medics’ knowledge and reasoning skills with regard to swallowing disorders or communication disorders. On the other hand cultural diversity is the different range of norms and beliefs practiced by the doctors’ profession. Those in the medical field follow different steps when treating the disease hence the steps ought not to be the same but the end result should be qualitative.
The rationale for evidence based practice is ...
Martin Luther King’s speech “I Have a Dream” delivered on the 28th of August 1963, at the Lincoln Memorial, Washington D.C. was all about values and equality. Jr. King talked about the American Dream and how every person, despite the color of their skin, are entitled to taste the American Dream and have a place in a society where blacks and whites are not far apart. He certainly made a great impact to the world with his speech, given that, today, he is the one and only individual, of all the numerous great men in the American History, that is given his ...

Brain is the central part of the nervous system of humans and animals, the main body of the psyche. Among the many functions performed by the brain, a very important place is occupied by the implementation of higher mental activity that has reached a particularly high level of development among human beings. - Evaluate Lukianoff's and Scott's arguments for and against free-speech zones on college campuses. Evaluate which person made the stronger argument.
Greg Lukianoff argued that a policy on free-speech zones is a curtailment of an individual’s or group’s freedom of expression – given the fact that “only a tiny portion of the campus” is allowed for use during protests/rallies. He strongly believed that anything that impedes or hinders people for free speech is a violation of their constitutional rights. He calls for the toppling of all free speech zones to make them all, ultimately, free speech zones (that is, that there ...

Slavery was a common theme in Henry’s speech. What specific imagery did Henry use to illustrate his message? Why would those images have resonated so strongly with his audience?
Henry used the tyranny of Great Britain as his imagery in depicting slavery. In convincing the people of Virginia to enter into war, Henry noted that it is time for the state to engage in war against Great Britain. The continued maltreatment of the British, alongside the failed efforts of Virginia to cultivate peace within the state, prompted Henry to encourage his fellow ...
Introduction
Speech and articulation disorders do not necessarily lead to disability but these disorders definitely affect an individual in a multitude of ways. An individual suffering from the congenital disorder cleft palate for example, would most likely exhibit obvious signs and symptoms of speech and articulation impairments, mainly because of the anatomical distortion of the muscles and other facial structures used in articulation. These individuals’ speech may well be distorted for the rest of their lives if left untreated because there is no natural way of repairing damaged articulation structures. There is a statistically significant portion of the infant population suffering from ...
Flag Burning as a Symbolic Speech
Nature of the case
When thinking about the symbols of a nation, the flag comes into mind; this is the principle upon which a country is built and of national unity. The flag possesses a special and revered role that is exhibited with pride from different groups and individuals. The lingering question is what would happen in the event that the flag is treated with disrespect, or dishonored. The Supreme Court of the United States addressed flag burning issues and free speech on Texas vs. Johnson. The burning of the American flag is expressive or symbolic speech and it fell within ...

There are 4 approaches for a presentation development. These include a workshop, a lecture and speech, a group activity, and a discussion. All these approaches are called public speaking when presented to group of people. Each of the four mentioned approaches in presentation should include the three rhetorical triangle elements. For that reason, the approaches require connecting all these elements since when one misses, the entire presentation will fail.
Starting with a workshop, this is an approach when a speaker talks to a given group of people so as to teach and show them the way a given project is done. Thus, the speaker presents information about ...

There is a tornado warning in town, and a strong system is need to establish an emergency communication plan with the public and the related state organs. Telephones may include both the landline telephone system as well as cell phones. In such a case, where the landline telephone and internet systems fails, other methods of ...
Democracy can be defined simply as a system of governance in which citizens are vested with the power to choose their leaders through a democratic process. The rule of the majority is a dominant characteristic of a democracy. Citizens require information in order to make better decisions. The internet is one of the many sources of information available to individuals. The internet has been gaining prominence as a source of information due to its size, reach and usability (Joint, 2005). On face value, democracy and the internet seem to complement each other. This paper will examine this relationship and establish whether this observation realistic ...
Research was once carried out by linguist Jennifer Coates on the aspect of gender and language. The research was solemnly focused on determining both male and female gender approach on the way they convey different messages, both in writing and also spoken, indiscriminate of whether the message at hand was formal or informal. Interestingly, it was found out that both men and women have a completely different approach to language, be it spoken and/or written. For instance, women are known to spend more of their time gossiping as compared to those of opposite sex. The research further reveals that women ...
There are several studies that have been conducted to analyse women’s and men’s speech across various cultural identities. The main goal of the studies has been to find out whether there is a difference in the way men and women speak. Speech behaviour of both genders can be analysed in respect to language usage, phonology, verbal choice and the general interactions between men and women in discourse.
Conventionally, most of the sociolinguists look at the issue of gender in discourse in connection with the level of education, ethnic background, socio-economic status and the age of the individuals involved. ...
The Left versus the Right Sides of the Brain: Their Impact on Learning
The higher brain – the cerebral cortex – is anatomically divided into two hemispheres – the right and the left. Although the two hemispheres are basically similar in structure, microscopic differences exist, and their functional abilities and propensities are different. These functional differences are described as ‘hemispheric asymmetry’ (Hellige, 1993). The left hemisphere controls sensory and motor functions of the right side of the body, and vice versa. The layman’s percept is that the left hemisphere is responsible for symbolic processes, production and perception of language, and rational thinking, while the right is involved in artistic, intuitive, and creative thinking. This ...
Contrary to popular belief, the issue of African-American racism and slavery in the United States did not begin in the early 1970s. Slavery has already begun in the early 1700s with most of these slaves transported from Africa and other far-flung regions, while some African slaves married Hispanic Americans who were also treated like slaves. Many slaves had resigned to their faith and considered themselves lucky if they would have gained their freedom in those days. However, like the recent slavery and racism movement in the 1970s, there were those who dreamed to remove the boundaries raised by slavery. ...
Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) is well known for its protest activities and the extreme position against homosexuality. Some of these activities include American flag desecration and picketing American servicemen’s funerals. Most individuals regard the church as a hate group. Due to this, the church is closely monitored by the Southern Poverty Law Centre and the Anti-Defamation League. Highlighted herein are the reasons why the church should not be allowed to continue with its disruptions and protests, especially disruption of assemblies like military funerals. The church may have its constitutional right to free speech, but I believe it should not ...
1. Why did you pick your speech?
The main reason I chose this speech is that despite it being 52 years old its’ message is still significant today. This speech focuses on vices, hardships and terrors which we currently face today and were faced in the yester years. The speech is direct, simple and eloquent. Its message is concise; it is the fourth shortest inaugural speech delivered, 13 minutes and 59 second. However, it is ranked by historians as one of the best inaugural speeches of all time (Grier, 2011).
I was also drawn to this speech because ...

Formation of speech is one of the basic characteristics of the general development of the child. Speech for the child is the most important means of communication with the outside world, interacting with others, as well as information for the development of cognitive activity and thinking. Therefore, the development of speech is closely connected with the formation of all other mental abilities. Signs of the backlog in the development of speech is a reason for immediate treatment and a visit to the doctor (pediatrician, child neurologist, otolaryngologist, a child psychiatrist, a speech therapist, psychologist). This is especially important, because ...

Speech Styles
Introduction
One of the most dynamic phenomenon in the human beings is the speech which has endless forms of variation. Speech is a continuously varying process which influences their neighbors. In the speech, a style is a set of linguistic variants with some special meaning. Having different variations is the heart of the speech style- without variations, there is no basis for distinguishing different meanings. These variations can occur lexically, syntactically, and phonologically. A speaker does not use a fixed attribute of the speech, but he/she uses different styles depending on the context. Sometimes, it so happens that speakers ...
What is the Fourth of July to slaves?
Introduction
“What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?” is a famous speech given by an African American slave fugitive at the time by the name Frederick Douglas, which was delivered on the Fifth of July, the day after the day of independence, in 1852. The speech highlighted the plight of the African Americans who were discriminated by the white population. The speech describes the Fourth of July as a paradox since the independence given to the African Americans was paradoxical. To the African American, the fourth of July was a day when the White continued to enjoy ...
Freedom of speech on campus is a right as guaranteed by the First Amendment. Recently it is an argumentative issue on several campuses (Amar). Students are tired of the first amendment as it is becoming more vulnerable to violation. Note that, students are creating very hostile and unsafe learning premises for themselves. Thus, speech codes prevent a lot of harm that would perhaps occur to students (Herron). Violation of speech can involve sensitive verbal attacks that would otherwise oppress and discriminate a student (Arthur, John, and Amy). Such a minor violation can affect the ability of a student. In ...

The orator of the speech is Martin Luther King, a man trusted, respected, and considered the most renowned civil rights movement leader of America by the audience. King had developed some promising ethos through the speech (Martin Luther King). For instance, Martin Luther stared the speech through reading from his arranged text, and half way ignored this text during the speech to include a theme “I have a dream”. He was enthusiastic and became more confident as he gained trust and reassuring applause from his audiences (Sundquist).
Martin Luther was the most prominent leader of American civil rights movement. He is considered ...

Abstract
Every speech is embellished by metaphoric expression, despite its context, content, and tone. In different fields the application of metaphors may vary, yet still they are applied regardless the situation consciously or unconsciously. In the speech of adults, metaphoric expressions play pivotal role serving as the instruments of persuasion, simplification, and demonstration. There is less evidence that explain the utilization of metaphors by children. Some scholars insist that children use metaphoric expressions unconsciously, while the other researchers imply that they implement the metaphors due to their symbolic perception of the environment. There is certain inconsistency in the results ...

Freedom and human rights have become major issues in the 21st Century. However, the interpretations and application of human rights regulations have different ends in different countries. The purpose of this paper is to compare the systems of freedom and human rights as they exist between the United States and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In doing this, this paper presents a hypothesis that freedom of speech and freedom of religion in both Saudi Arabia and the United States are the same and although they have different traditions, they all seek the same goals and ends.

Abstract
This research paper discusses adapting the learning environment for children with disabilities, first defining that learning environment and suggesting the disabilities that might be encountered. The research found that different disabilities and the degrees of those disabilities require correspondingly different types of adaptations to the learning environment in terms of modifications to classroom layout, lighting and furnishings, to classroom tools, equipment and play items, and in some instances even modifications to the building itself. It became apparent that a comprehensive plan is required, to achieve the goal of giving disabled children exactly the same learning opportunities as their peers. The ...
It is a mandate for every parent to help their children develop language and communication during the early years of their lives. It is a fascinating process for every parent to see their children respond to them by producing sounds or by the show of signs to acknowledge that they understand when they are being engaged in a conversation. However, parents should keep track of these developments to detect when there are delays in the process of language development. There are common signs that every child should demonstrate at every stage for their language developments to be considered normal ( ...

African-Americans have lived a miserable destiny under the harsh institution of slavery. They have long endured the cruelty of racial discrimination and social segregation within a country where liberty, democracy and freedom are considered as national ideals. The name “Negros” is not just a simple term, but it is a humiliating adjective that are applied to black Americans to ridicule their race. The blacks have to bear the cruelty of a nation whose economy depended on their labor, yet refuses to recognize their potential as a person. The society upholds to their principle that color of the African-Americans defines the entirety of their being- no ...

Deng Xiaoping on the Anti-rightist Campaign of 1957
As the secretary general of the CCP in 1957, Deng Xiaoping supported the advocacy of Mao Zedong towards the Anti-Rightist Movement. It was through Deng’s leadership that anti-rightist movements were implemented (Deng, 408). In his report as the secretary general, he pointed out that the emergence of the difficulties within the Party was rooted from social and ideological causes: a) First, a large number of the Party members do not belong from the working class; b) there was the rapid growth of the Party, but quality was neglected which resulted from the ideological and political acts to lag ...

The problem does not affect the intelligence of the person, but rather their synthesis and interpretation of the same information.

How Inner Speech and Outer Speech are Connected
As we all know, there are two different types of speech. Those are inner speech, when you are talking to oneself, and outer speech, when others talk to you and you talk to others. Moreover, these two types of speech are connected in a number of ways. One of those ways concerns what generates what. One of the scientists who have studied the issue was Lev Vygotsky.
According to Jones (2009), who explored the works of Vygotsky, human being has «to first learn to do things publicly – ‘externally’ – with others before being able to do them ‘internally’». In order ...
