Abstract
The red squirrel is one of the modern wonders of evolution. The squirrel has a surprisingly red toned fur as opposed to the conventional grey squirrels. The red pigmentation of the fur of this squirrel can be attributed to a process known as melanism. This is the process through which darker pigmentation occurs.
