Since the establishment of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), the role of China in the relation between Thailand and Cambodia has been quite evident. China has been involved in a number of ways, including the border disputes between Cambodia and Thailand, which started several years ago. Cambodia’s historical concern about Thailand’s inversion on its western provinces depicts a case where an ASEAN state has suspended diplomatic relations with another (Weatherbee 2008).
