South Korea is an East Asian nation located in the southern part of the Korea Peninsula. Prior to 1948, the South and North Korea were one nation under different occupying forces. The forces of the United States occupied the south while the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) occupied the north. However, in 1948 after the World War II, the nation of South Korea was established, and the two parts were partitioned. This partition caused unbalanced economic units.
