After the Great Wars that shook the status quo in the 1900s up to the late 90s, many believed that peace would no longer be threatened by worldwide conflict. However, this relief had been shattered when a group had decided to attack several key installations of the world’s only superpower on September 11, 2001, returning the fear that was once felt in the time of the Great Wars. With a group known as Al Qaeda taking responsibility over the crime, the US and its allies have declared “The War on Terror” against groups such as Al Qaeda across the globe. ...

The rapid advance of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) against Iraqi forces represents yet another critical milestone in Iraq’s turbulent recent history. The policy options available to the United States are complicated by the regional dimensions of the conflict and the divergent interests of key players, most notably Iran, Syria, Russia, a loose coalistion of Western countries and Sunni-regimes in the region. While most of the policy options may be framed as a search for the “least bad” policy to address this quagmire, there may be a path worth exploring to transform the situation into a rare opportunity ...

The selection of India comes as no surprise for a number of reasons. It has an ever-changing population rate and a rich history that stipulates and rationalizes population trends. Mortality and population growth have historical underlying reasons. The point is that the Indians would incur multiple waves of incursion. Alexander the Great and Genghis Khan conquered parts of the Indian subcontinent while the British troops sent the whole region into the vassalage of English royalty. An increase in exploitation is always in inverse proportion to population growth and life expectancy. Since the region was the lucrative sources of spices, cotton, and ...

The TMOQ documentary made quite an outstanding impact on me regarding the United States involvement in Afghanistan. Upon watching the documentary, I went further to do some research on whether the United States has any business continuing their involvement in Afghanistan since we have disseminated Osama Bin Laden and weakened Al-Qaida. I think that the continued stay in Afghanistan is an insult to nation building and to the integrity of Afghani people. In the article, Why the Military Needs to Leave Afghanistan, and Soon, Phil Sparrow makes a case against continued western military presence in Afghanistan. Phil Sparrow argues that ...
Banking industry in Malaysia
The Malaysian banking industry can be traced back to the early 1900s during a period of rapid economic development mainly due to the increasing profits accrued from the rubber plantations and the tin industry. This set the pace for the growth of the industry and its subsequent expansion to include the setting up of Bank Negara Malaysia, which is the country’ ...

There are environmental chemical processes which require light to react. These processes are called photochemical reactions. Photochemical reaction is commonly initiated due to the absorption of solar energy or light. When molecules absorb energy in the form of light, the atoms are converted in a transient excited state (Larson & Weber, 1994). This transition state or excited has completely different physical and chemical properties with the initial state of the molecule. The excited states also have more tendencies to react since they are considered stronger acids and stronger reductants that the initial state of the molecule. The excited state of ...

Japan and Germany
Japan and Germany
Before World War 2, Japan and Germany had certain similarities in their foreign relations and domestic policies, which will be discussed in this paper. It is arguable why the two countries found themselves as allies together with Italy in world war two, but there is a great possibility that if the two countries had been neighbors, they would have fought each other because of their similar foreign policies. However, due to their distance between each other and their similar foreign policies, they were allies in the Second World War. This is because they found themselves fighting ...

In the past, the international financial markets have had diverse ways and means of achieving their financial satisfaction and objectives based on different operation platforms. For this reason, there arose challenges with integration of different financial systems without a common platform. This led to most countries modifying their models of international finance for them to remain competitive in the market as well as possibilities of investing in new markets and having investors from anywhere in the world invest in their financial system. The Palestinian conflict is one of Biblical proportions, a perpetual crisis that has for decades served as a political “football” for the world’s leading states. Its profoundly historic roots continue to further an environment of confrontation in what is arguably the most volatile and fought-over region on earth. The creation of Israel in 1948 and consequent splintering of the Palestinian territory was administered by the British Empire, which had emerged from World War II the victor in the Middle East. Great Britain’s characteristically imperialistic and exploitative motivations soon gave vent to widespread civil unrest and provided a backdrop for the ...

This paper discusses and examines thermodynamics concepts and systems, particularly air conditioners. The principles upon which these systems are built, namely the first and the second thermodynamics laws are analyzed. Air conditioner performance and efficiency is also examined under the two laws. The second law of thermodynamics helps in determining the effectiveness of thermodynamics-based systems and is used in this paper to determine the efficiency of air conditioners. This paper finally makes recommendations based on calculations that determine the levels of efficiency of air conditioners.
