Many students groan and cringe when they are told that they have to work as a team. Regardless of the negative attitudes that students have developed towards working as a team, group work has been proved to be healthy for both students and teachers as well. Even in the real job market, most employers want employees who have already developed teamwork skills, as this will help when it comes to relating with co-workers(Caruso &Wooley, 2008). In addition, students who take part in collaborative learning end up getting better marks and grades as compared to individuals who do not prefer ...

Fredrick W. Taylor started the scientific management movement. Taylor’s perspective focused on the principle that maximizing work performance done is more efficient than imposing on people. Taylor’s four doctrines of management were one; use scientific methods instead of the rule of thumb to study the work. The second rule is to match workers to specific jobs based on the motivation and productivity rather than random assignment. The third rule is to watch the performance closely and offer supervision and instructions. The fourth doctrine as advanced by Taylor is to allocate jobs between workers and managers. In the past few decades, the debate regarding payment for college athletes has become a pressing issue for higher education, necessitating a deeper look into the consequences of paying college athletes such high amounts for their playing. Some argue that the emphasis on athletics in the higher education experience has left other departments hurting for funds, leaving the budget for actual academics lower while athletes are allowed to focus on sports instead of learning. However, the purpose of this research paper is to argue that college athletes’ current high compensation is justified, due to the profits that schools bring in from ...

There are many responsibilities a school administrator must watch over when it comes to ensuring the safety and decent education of students. From demanding laws like search and seizure be enacted properly, to seeing that all students enjoy a separation of church and state it appears the duties of an administrator are endless. Many landmark court cases, such as Lemon v. Kurtzman, have seen their way to the Supreme Court over these and other issues in order to ensure that students receive a fair education at the hands of teachers and administrators. Fairness seems to be what is most often on the ...

For the past few decades reports on teacher’s performance in relation to motivation have hit the country’s media. Although the concept of improving on teachers attention seems new to many policy makers, the discussion started as early as in 1860’s. During this time teachers were required to place their focus on moral character of students more than their performance (Brandt, 1990). A high percentage of teachers by then were women who had elementary education qualifications, and who could leave the field once they got married.
As a result of industrialization, the purpose and duties of schools ...

My Personal Philosophy
There are three things I value more in life than anything else –education, camaraderie and integrity. However, these does not mean that everything else is worthless or has no value to me. In fact, I think that value is something that varies among people depending on how they were brought up and what they wanted to accomplish out of life. I value education because my parents reared me believing that a good education is one’s person only asset that cannot be taken away nor would run dry. Camaraderie is important for me because I believe ...

I first began to notice that the concept of learning is not an arbitrary thing to most people as I observed the education system. We begin school, we are taught, we learn, we graduate, and then that is the end. We are expected to find jobs and begin contributing to society; the learning has ended. This was a troubling concept. Why should we stop learning just because we have left school? In addition, why should school be the only place that we are learning? Are not there other ways to learn? We can learn through observing, philosophizing, and thinking for ...

In 1927, Constantin Brancusi made a bronze sculpture to capture the essence of birds in flight. The sculpture aptly known as Bird in Space was subject to alterations that Brancusi made to go further and not merely do them differently. Although he did not label himself a modernist, his works embody the principles that have come to be associated with the modernist era.
Modernism is thought to be the philosophy, a style and ideology of modern art. Artists of this period sought to create a new world, their version of the world, a new conception rather than an ...

The main purpose of a quantitative research study is to determine the relationships between a dependent and independent variable in a population. These researches are either experimental or descriptive. While an experimental study establishes casualty, a descriptive study usually establishes the association of the research variables (Madrigal & McClain, 2012 p.7). In Jerry Burger’s study, which sought to determine the association between obedience and authority while replicating Milgram’s experiment in the current society, he sought to conduct an experimental quantitative research study. In such studies, the sampling strategy and sample sizes used to reach the results are important in either strengthening or ...
