A wealth of historians have written on baseball and football during the World War II era. However, there is precious little devoted to the political complexities between the Roosevelt Administration, Major League Baseball, and to a lesser extent the National Football League. Patriotism was good for business, however loosing players to the war effort was not, nor were direct financial contributions to the war effort.
