Introduction
The Health and Social Care Act was introduced in April 2012 as part of a series of efforts by the government to reorganise the structure of the National Health Service of England. The Act fundamentally provides autonomy to healthcare providers and abolishes the NHS primary care trusts and strategic health authorities in order to make way for clinical commissioning groups which are controlled more actively by professional practitioners.
